Looking for fun things to do in Brisbane? First time throwing clay on the pottery wheel? Join Wesley Taylor Art Studios in Brisbane City for a creative and relaxing session.
Over your session, you'll get step-by-step guidance from a patient, experienced teacher and make up to three pieces on the wheel. We work with earthenware clay, so you can take your pieces home to air dry and paint yourself with acrylics, or add our ceramic painting and kiln firing service for a proper ceramic finish.
We have two throwing rooms, so we split bookings and keep the average class size to around 6 people. On busy nights you may have a room to yourselves.
Allow a 2-hour time slot, which covers the 1.5-hour class plus clean-up.

  • Kiln firing: $25 per piece (up to 12cm)
  • Ceramic painting session: a separate 2-hour session where you paint your fired pieces with underglaze, then we glaze-fire them, ready about a week later
  • Intermediate follow-up class: come back once you're a little more confident, paint 2 pieces in the same session, and we glaze and fire them for pick-up in 4 weeks
  • Birthday cake (mud, caramel or chocolate, with candle, plates, napkins and cutlery): free for bookings of 7 or more, $50 for smaller groups
  • Grazing platters, if you'd rather not organise food yourself

Good to know
  • The studio is BYO drinks and food. We provide paper cups; please bring your own plates, cutlery and glassware unless you've ordered a platter.
  • Public sessions need a minimum of 4 guests to run. If we don't reach that, we'll contact you to reschedule.

I think we are not getting enough quality time with such teacher:student ratio. A lot of time is wasted sitting there waiting for teacher to come and help. 2hrs session is too tight for such large group of beginners. As I came back in the afternoon to pick up my work it was one more experienced teacher teaching a small group of 4 people beginner class which is soooo much better and chill. Teacher could have much more quality time with each student and even have time for photos taking. I won’t blame the teachers they are doing their best. But it’s just not fair paying same amount of money for such different quality time.

I was able to make three little pots/bowls during the class and felt very proud of myself. Niamh gave lots of help where needed but also encouraged me to do it myself as she guided me. I'm a Brisbane-based artist, and I've been painting and drawing since my early childhood days. I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the Queensland Art Gallery, which gave me ample opportunity to pursue my passion and hone my skills.
I'm very much inspired by the beauty and diversity of Australia. Many of my paintings focus on landscapes, surrealism, animals, and people. North Queensland is a particular favorite, and you'll see the influence of coral seas and mountain landscapes throughout my artwork. I have a post-impressionist style through which I try to capture the wonder of the world around us.
I specialize in pastel on card and acrylic on canvas, though I'm also experimenting with abstract and airbrush.
I've been fortunate enough to display my work in many art exhibitions and have been the recipient of many prizes and awards.
I offer Paint and Sip sessions along with Clay and Sip sessions, both at discounted rates for ClassBento Patrons. I believe in bringing these experiences to the customer at the very best competitive price possible, the real Australian Way. The Wesley Taylor Art Studios Mission initially set out to create workshops at half the cost of other workshops for customers to be able to enjoy the experience of creating a piece of artwork. This endeavor was to create the foundation of employing artists with a like-minded sense of assisting customers to enjoy this time out while creating new art experiences. The goals of value for money for customers and employment for artists to run these fun activities that may mark a milestone, a birthday, a hen's party, a social activity, a first date, or company team-building events to build and strengthen relationships with a common bond of creating something new.
