3 hours Class size 1 to 12

label $75 (Afterpay available)

Melbourne-based political collage artist Kieran Madden will lead a hands-on workshop exploring the subversive history of collage as a tool for creating art, graphics, and communications with an edge.
To kick things off, we'll begin by showcasing a curated selection of collages from political art to punk & indie in the form of record covers, flyers, and posters. Collage has long been used as an easily accessible tool to create do-it-yourself graphics, bypassing the mainstream media with its immediacy and directness.
Next up, attendees will embark on making their own collage pieces in response, working on anything from an artwork for a political cause that is close to your heart to artwork for your band, a personal passion project, or even your junk journal. For those of you unsure of what your theme or project might be, we can assure you that sometimes the strongest collages emerge without a prior plan or end goal in mind.
Over the 3-hour workshop, rip into the fascinating and passionate world of paper collage while enjoying a BYO beverage or two and our carefully curated playlist to keep you energised throughout the workshop.
For those new to That Paper Joint, welcome to this hybrid creative studio space, blending a cosy bar-like ambience with the chance to make & create artworks in a social and conversational setting.
Kieran will be on hand throughout to give advice and tips during the session, offering his expertise as a practicing member of the collage scene both in Brooklyn and Melbourne over the past 15 years.
