The Story Behind Little Earth Studio
Hi, we're Shelley and Emma, the founders of Little Earth Studio.
Little Earth Studio began with a shared love of creativity, community, and the simple joy of making something with your own hands.
Our paths into pottery were different, but we were both drawn to the same thing: the incredible feeling of creating something from nothing. Shelley has a degree in Ceramics and has spent years developing her technical knowledge, artistic practice, and understanding of the craft. Emma has been working with clay for over ten years, continually exploring new techniques and discovering the endless possibilities that pottery offers.
Like many people, we found ourselves looking for a way to slow down and reconnect with the present moment. Pottery gave us that opportunity. We were captivated by the process of transforming a simple lump of clay into something beautiful, functional, and completely unique. What started as a creative passion grew into a dream of sharing that experience with others.
There wasn't one single moment that sparked the idea for Little Earth Studio. Instead, it developed through years of creating, learning, experimenting, and imagining a space where people could experience the same sense of joy, achievement, and connection that clay had given us.
The more time we spent working with clay, the more we realised that pottery is about so much more than the finished piece. It's about slowing down, embracing imperfections, building confidence, and giving yourself permission to create without pressure. We wanted to create a place where people could experience all of that for themselves.
That's how Little Earth Studio was born.
Our vision was to create more than just a pottery studio. We wanted to build a welcoming creative space where people could step away from busy schedules, connect with others, and rediscover the satisfaction of making something by hand. Whether someone is touching clay for the very first time or continuing a lifelong creative journey, we want them to feel comfortable, supported, and inspired from the moment they walk through the door.
One of the things we love most about teaching is seeing people surprise themselves. So many students arrive convinced they're "not creative" or worried they won't be good enough. Then, after a little encouragement and guidance, they create something they're genuinely proud of. Watching that transformation happen is incredibly rewarding.
Teaching allows us to share not only practical pottery skills but also the confidence and sense of achievement that comes from trying something new. We love seeing friendships form around the worktable, hearing conversations flow while hands are covered in clay, and watching people discover a creative side of themselves they may not have explored for years.
Something many people don't realise about pottery is that clay has a mind of its own. It teaches patience, adaptability, and resilience. Sometimes the pieces that don't go exactly as planned become the most loved and memorable creations. Pottery reminds us that perfection isn't the goal—expression, learning, and enjoyment are.
That philosophy is at the heart of everything we do at Little Earth Studio.
Today, our studio is a creative home for a growing community of makers. Alongside our workshops and classes, we offer memberships that give people the freedom to create at their own pace and make creativity a regular part of their lives. Members use the studio not only for pottery but also for journaling, sketching, planning, reading, and simply taking a quiet moment away from the demands of everyday life.
We believe creativity belongs to everyone, regardless of age, experience, or artistic background. Our goal is to create a space where people feel welcome, inspired, and encouraged to explore without fear of making mistakes.
Little Earth Studio is built on a simple belief: creating something with your own hands has the power to bring people together, build confidence, and bring a little more joy into everyday life.
We're so excited to share this journey with our community and can't wait to welcome you into the studio.
