We will cut out all our pattern pieces and transfer markings to fabric. We will prepare our bias binding, and sew button holes for our drawstrings.

Sew fronts and backs together, attach waistband, insert elastic and drawstring.


In our first session, we will measure ourselves to select the perfect fit, cut out all our pattern pieces, transfer markings to fabric, make our bias tape, and prep our drawstrings, waistbands, and pockets.
We will cover the basics, including:
  • How to find your perfect fit
  • How modifications can be made (if necessary)
  • How to lay out your pattern and how to avoid common mishaps
  • How printed fabric affects layout
  • How bias tape is made
  • How to cut out and prep your pattern pieces
In our second session, we will begin constructing our garment and complete it.

  • How to read a pattern
  • Pattern terminology
  • Sewing bias tape at pocket detail
  • Constructing pockets
  • Sewing fronts and backs together
  • Finishing edges
  • Sewing bias tape to detailed edges
  • Attaching waistband
  • Inserting elastic, finishing waistband sewing & edges
  • Inserting drawstring

Beginner-friendly, but should have some basic experience operating a sewing machine.
What to bring
An electronic or printed version of the Friday Company Sport Short pattern and instruction manual (see FAQ).
  • 1 metre of main fabric (light woven cotton or linen)
  • 1 metre of contrasting fabric for bias tape, drawstring, and waistband
  • Matching thread

Where can I find more details regarding the pattern?
You can find detailed information such as meterage requirements and fabric recommendations on the page where you can purchase the pattern. Please Note: sewing pattern sizes are at a different scale than pre-made garment sizing. It's best to measure your waist and hips to determine what size and how much fabric you will need.
