Come and get creative in this beginner workshop as you make your very own woven clutch bag in your choice of colour and texture with our design team at Creative Soup. You won't find this bag anywhere else, as we've custom-designed it ourselves especially for this beginner workshop to teach the basics in an easy way.
You will be guided step by step through bag elements, construction, weaving techniques, yarn knowledge, and inspiration for more advanced techniques and custom design (because we know at least some of you will get addicted to this relaxing, meditative process).
At Creative Soup, we love to create a warm, welcoming learning experience that is inclusive for all genders, ethnicities, and mind types (guess how many of our team are neurodivergent ;)).

Note: The workshop venue is fully accessible. There are no steps on entry, and the building has lifts and accessible bathrooms.

What you'll get
  • All materials and instructions needed to create your bag, including substrate, lining, handles, findings and strap, along with your choice of vegan leather or premium weaving cord.
  • Tea or coffee.
  • Good vibes and step by step guidance from your friendly facilitators.
Knowledge required
This class is for the curious and creative. Absolute beginners are welcome. No prior knowledge is required.
What to bring
You don't need to bring anything; however, please feel free to bring a snack or grab one from the onsite café, which is open daily from 8am till 3pm. There is also an onsite kitchen where you can make yourself a tea or coffee and even heat up a snack—perfect if you get peckish or hangry.

Is the class suitable for children?
Children under 16 are welcome with an adult. Accompanying adults can either supervise at no cost or use our bring a friend discount to also make a bag.

Balam Balam Place is an arts and community centre in the heart of Brunswick, a short walk from Sydney Road, Brunswick Station, tram stops and bus stops. The easiest way to arrive is via the South Building located just next to Home Economics Cafe and Blak Dot Gallery. Look for the Big Yellow Arrow! When you arrive at the South Building, please come to reception on the Ground Floor. If reception is unattended, or you need assistance finding your room, please call 0429 568 798.
