Studio Arts Exploration Class for All Levels

Get creative and get a little messy! The Studio Arts Program is a welcoming space where imagination takes the lead, and everyone is encouraged to explore their artistic side-no experience required.Participants will dive into hands-on art-making with activities like drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media. Guided by our friendly, skilled instructor, you’ll increase your confidence in various techniques, styles, and approaches to art as you create your own personal style.This term students will be learning:1. Colour Theory Explore colour relationships, colour mixing and different colour combinations through practical experiments. Investigate how colours interact, contrast and change depending on what they are placed beside, and use these discoveries to inform your own artwork.2. Collage to Painting Create a collage by selecting, cutting and arranging images, shapes, colours and textures to develop an original composition. Use the completed collage as a starting point for a painting, reinterpreting, simplifying, enlarging or transforming the collage rather than simply copying it. Explore how an idea can move from one medium into another.3. Pattern Explore repetition, rhythm, shape, line and colour through the creation of patterns. Experiment with repeating and varying visual elements to develop patterns that can become standalone artworks or be incorporated into drawing, collage, painting and mixed-media work.4. Drawing from Life in the Park Work from direct observation in the park, using the surrounding environment as a source for drawing. Explore line, shape, texture, proportion, composition and quick sketching while responding to what you see and experience rather than focusing on producing a highly finished or realistic drawing.5. Oil Pastel Monoprinting Experiment with oil pastels and monoprinting without the need for a printing press. Explore colour, texture, mark making and mixed media to create unique one-off prints.This program is all about having fun, building confidence, and connecting with others through art.
