I found punch needle embroidery when looking for a practical, safe to have around kids hobby that I could practice in the interval of my full-time job while commuting when my kids were in bed or at school. Meaning that I had little time for creative work. Soon I was going to bed at 2 am and neglecting my kids (they are fine, really).

When I love something I get obsessed about it, but not to a point that makes my friends worry about me. Only good obsessions like punch needle embroidery. I love colours, but I’m obsessed with mustard yellow and pink. I love talking, but I’m obsessed with talking about all types of equality. The only thing that I truly hate is bananas. Really, not a joke, I have an obsessively hate for bananas.

The teacher was a lovely young lady and very friendly. She has great experience and a lovely choice of different yarns to choose from. Also, she offered some nice coffee and other refreshments. It was a new experience for me and I work rather slowly, so could not complete my project in the allocated time. Overall I enjoyed my time at her friendly place.

This was a wonderful introduction to punch needle embroidery. I went in as a total beginner and left with a completed project, feeling incredibly confident and inspired to go forward and tackle punch needle embroidery!

I was lucky to be in a small class with two other participants, which meant that Patricia (Paty) was able to spend time with each of us and provide one-on-one assistance. Paty is a lovely instructor - she's funny, kind and has tonnes of experience and insight. It was inspiring to see all her projects on the wall and hear her tips and tricks.

My only critique is that I would have liked to have been provided more information on where to source the equipment and materials, as well as further stitching techniques.

All in all, it was such a unique and intimate experience - nothing like your typical workshop!

Paty was incredible! Kind, attentive, and informative as an instructor. And beyond talented as an artist and punch-needler.
As a first timer, this class showed me the basics and provided me with helpful tips and tricks to get the best possible result. Cannot recommend this class enough!

Teacher was lovely and passionate which really shone through.
The venue was very cute, although was very hot on the day we were there, but deffo could have been worse. Was a nice breeze from the window.
Was great interacting with others in the class.
We came about 10 mins late so I’m not sure whether we missed a bit of Info,
But would have liked some clarification on how to finish the loop for framing. Is it supposed to stay in the loop? How do you finish at the back? Is it supposed to be reframed? Being a complete novice to punch needling I was missing a bit of info and the questions arise in my mind after the class is over

Amazing punch needle class in a perfect venue, great value for money and so much fun! Paty was really clear in her instructions and kept the class informative but with a really welcoming, relaxed vibe. The materials provided were really great quality and there was such a huge variety of yarns to choose from. We were given a great introduction and brief back story of the process, and plenty of materials to use both as templates and inspiration (including samples of the teachers beautiful work)! The venue staff were really welcoming and helpful. The coffee and food from the cafe were delicious and all vegan/ gluten free (highly recommend the savoury tart). The location is great too, barely a 5 minute walk from Brunswick station.

Paty was a wonderful teacher – she gave us a clear overview of techniques and was supportive of our individual needs while we were working through our embroidery. I really enjoyed attending and would recommend to anyone who is curious about punch needle!

Andreia Tsujii Nov 2021

Paty was very attentive and guided each one of us with care. I enjoyed every bit of the class, from the explanation, to choosing the design and the practical part we had SO MANY colours to choose, and she also provided some design ideas. The space was nice and bright, the owners of Gloria cafe are lovely humans beings and will definitely be coming back for their carrot cake next time.
Can’t wait to come back and learn other techniques!
