About Me – Michelle Barton
I’ve always been a creative at heart, but it wasn’t until later in life that I gave myself permission to truly follow that calling. After many years working in finance and admin, I found my balance in paint-splattered jeans and a canvas bigger than I am. What began as a passion project—painting bespoke backdrops for photographers—has since grown into MCB Studio Backdrops and along with The Art Clubhouse, I now spend my days creating, teaching, and helping others rediscover their own creative spark.
My love of teaching comes from seeing that exact “lightbulb moment” when someone realises they can paint, sculpt, or create something entirely their own. I’ve run everything from relaxed Paint & Sip nights and fun clay workshops to team-building sessions and art classes for kids and adults. For me, art isn’t about perfection—it’s about expression, connection, and the joy of watching people surprise themselves.
A little fun fact: every single backdrop I paint is one of a kind. I never measure or replicate colours—it’s all instinct, layers, and music playing in the background. That same approach spills into my workshops: a mix of laughter, freedom, and a gentle nudge to let go of expectations.
Over the years, my backdrops have been used by photographers and stylists across Melbourne and beyond, featured in fashion shoots, editorials, and creative campaigns. But what I’m proudest of is building a community of makers and dreamers who walk into my studio a little nervous and walk out glowing with pride (and sometimes glitter).
So whether it’s a Paint & Sip, an art play session, or a full creative escape—my goal is to make art feel accessible, joyful, and real.
