Wood Burning Workshop

Let's get creative… and burn stuff! Two ways to burn, one workshop - you pick your canvas.

2 hours Class size 1 to 16 guests       $145 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Never picked up a pyrography pen before? Perfect. This two-hour workshop is totally beginner-friendly and suits all skill levels and most ages, with no experience needed. The only real decision you need to make is what you'd like to set fire to (in the artistic sense, obviously) and with what design.
Pick your piece:
  • Burn on wood - your Wooden Cheese/Tapas Board is included, ready to become a serving tray, cheese board or wall art piece. Want to go bigger? Upgrade options are available on the day, with varying wood pieces to select from.
  • Burn a hat - design and burn your own custom statement hat, choosing from five colour options to match your vibe, then add embellishments like feathers, flowers, shells and more.
  • In the silly season - we bring in Christmas tree–shaped boards. Think rustic timber with festive quotes, snowflakes, reindeer or personalised messages - perfect for gifting, festive décor, or as the centrepiece on your Christmas table.
Everyone starts the same way - a quick warm-up on a small test board or an offcut of hat material, so you get a feel for the pen and canvas before you commit to the main event. Then it's heads down, pens hot.
In this workshop, you'll learn:
  • Tips for choosing beginner-friendly designs and materials
  • How to transfer your design onto timber or felt
  • How to safely and effectively use the pyrography tool
  • How to finish, seal and embellish your masterpiece
We've got loads of designs and templates to choose from, or feel free to bring your own printed in black and white. No two pieces ever come out the same, and that's the magic.
Small group sizes mean plenty of guidance, plenty of laughs, and you'll walk away with something truly unique - a design that reflects your style and personality, whether that's a statement piece for the wall, a gift-worthy board, or a hat you'll actually wear out.
Whether you're flying solo, bringing a mate, or wrangling the fam - come get your burn on.
What you'll get
  • Your choice of canvas: a fully customised wearable hat in one of five colours, or a Wooden Cheese/Tapas Board (can be used as a serving tray, cheese board or wall art), or a Christmas Tree board (Available in the silly season).
  • All tools, materials and expert guidance for the full two hours, including practice material to warm up on.
  • A bunch of embellishments for the hats, including feathers, flowers, shells and ribbon.
  • Complimentary bubbles, wine, beer, soft drinks, plus nibbles and snacks. All-inclusive.
  • Your finished piece to take home on the day - sealed, sorted and ready to use, wear, or gift.

Collective Obsessions is a creative studio and community space in Balcatta, Perth, designed for people who want to try new things, make cool stuff, and surprise themselves.
What started as a love of getting hands-on with creative mediums has grown into a colourful, welcoming studio offering workshops, open studio sessions, memberships and private events. We work across a range of mediums including resin, alcohol inks, water marbling, acrylic pouring, textured art and mixed media.
More than anything, Collective Obsessions is about people. Our workshops are filled with first-timers, returning guests, and our beautiful creative tribe who make the studio feel like home.
If you’ve ever said “I’m not creative”, you’re exactly who we’re for.
We’re on a mission to…
Make creativity feel accessible, fun and safe.
We believe creativity isn’t about talent or experience - it’s about giving yourself permission to play.
Our mission is to create a space where people can slow down, switch off their busy brains, connect with others, and feel proud of what they make.
Whether you’re joining us for a one-off workshop or becoming part of our creative tribe, we want you to leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
Our top tips for beginners is…
Don’t overthink it - just start.
You don’t need any experience, skills or artistic background. We’ll teach you the techniques, guide you step-by-step, and then encourage you to make it your own. The best pieces often come from experimenting, happy accidents and trusting your instincts.
There is no “right way” to create here.
You’ll leave our workshop feeling…
Proud, relaxed and slightly obsessed.
Most people walk in feeling unsure and walk out buzzing - with something beautiful in their hands and a new appreciation for their own creativity. Many leave already planning what they want to try next.
Meet the Team:
Rochelle - Owner
Raised by a creative dad and a crafty mum, Rochelle has had art running through her veins from day one. From charcoal sketches and fashion design to photography, creativity has always been her language.
These days, Rochelle pours her energy into art, nature-inspired wood pieces, flow art, and guiding others on their creative journeys. Her passion is contagious, her encouragement endless, and her favourite moment is watching someone realise, “OMG… I made that!”
Fuelled by laughter, ocean swims, studio time, and anything chocolate, Rochelle is your biggest creative cheerleader.
Meet Mean Boss – aka Jamie
Co-Founder & Artist
Affectionately known as Mean Boss (don’t be fooled - he’s a big softie), Jamie is drawn to the quirky, the unexpected, and the beautifully imperfect.
With roots in photography and a deep respect for nature and traditional craftsmanship, Jamie’s creative journey led him into timber, then expanded into charcoal, resin, acrylics, ink, graphite, and beyond. Always experimenting, always pushing boundaries, and often breaking things along the way (the okay kind).
Back in the studio, Jamie brings relaxed vibes, big ideas, and a little mischief to everything he creates.
That’s our story and we THANK you for reading and taking an interest.
