Walking Foot Quilting Workshop

Gain the skills and confidence to create your own quilted masterpiece

6 hours Class size 6 to 16 guests       $125 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Are you one of those quilters who only makes tops? Is it because you don’t own a long-arm, or does learning free-motion quilting seem overwhelming?
Maybe walking foot quilting is for you!
This one-day, hands-on class will guide you through linear patterns, including grids and matchstick quilting, gentle curves, as well as stitch and thread effects.
We'll explore methods to create rich textures and striking effects using your sewing machine's walking foot and a selection of thread weights. By the end of the day, you'll have the skills and confidence to create your own modern masterpiece.
Note: You will need to complete some preparation before the class.
What you'll get
Completed samples can be used to make placemats or cushions.
Knowledge required
Experience making quilt tops.
What to bring
Six solid colour, whole-cloth, spray-basted quilt sandwiches:
  • One should measure 13” x 17”
  • The other five should measure 16” x 16”
  • Batting and backing should extend at least ½” on each side.
  • Sewing machine with walking foot (or dual feed). Please make sure it’s a machine you’re familiar with and that you understand how to attach the walking foot.
  • Contrasting thread (to quilt sandwiches) in 40wt. If you have other weights you’d like to try, please bring them. If you don’t, that’s also fine as we will have some for trying; they just might not be in the colours you want.
  • 80/12 and 90/14 machine needles. The larger is for trying thicker-weight threads.
  • Quilting ruler and preferred fabric marker.
  • General sewing kit – pins, scissors, stitch ripper, and tweezers.
