You will be learning and exploring my favourite basketry techniques with materials you can easily access after the class so you can easily keep on weaving.
Over a weekend you will be learning:
  • Random weaving with cane + inclusions
  • Random weaving with long leafy plants
  • Twining with jute with a pattern
  • Looping with paper string
  • Bonus string/cordage demonstration
By the end of this course, you will be confident in multiple basketry techniques.
Note there are different locations for each of the weekend workshops. With three workshop weekends taking place during my residency, you can choose the location and dates that suit you best. I look forward to sharing my love of weaving and exploring the creative possibilities of sculptural basketry with you.
6-7 February 2027 - Boneo Community Hall, 572 Boneo Road, Boneo Vic 3939
13-14 Feb February 2027 - Flinders Civic Hall, 54-56 Cook Street, Flinders Vic 3929
20-21 February 2027 - Red Hill Mechanics Hall, 19-23 Mechanics Road, Red Hill Vic 3937
Tapping into your creativity, like all of my workshops, it is so much more than just learning techniques; it’s an opportunity to tap into powerful creativity that is ready to surface.
Learning at your own pace, in this hands-on, practical workshop is all about exploration and experimentation, not perfection. While learning basketry techniques, you will be reconnecting with your imagination and creativity.
It’s a small class so you get hands-on tuition from expert basketry weaver, Catriona Pollard.
Suitable for beginners or weavers who are looking to learn these techniques. If you’ve never done weaving before – perfect! You’ll love it and leave with finished basketry sculptures and the confidence to do more.
This course is for you if:
  • You want to learn multiple basketry techniques.
  • You don’t have any experience or want to further develop your weaving.
  • You’re looking for a fun, relaxing creative outlet, and an enjoyable way to spend your downtime.
  • You deserve the gift of a weekend of dedicated weaving with a group of lovely people.

Hi! I'm Catriona Pollard, an award-winning fibre artist and international teacher. Over the past decade, I have taught more than 1, 000 students across Australia and internationally, guiding them to transform foraged plant fibres into expressive, organic sculptural works through weaving techniques.
My practice is grounded in both making and teaching, with a strong focus on fostering meaningful connections between people and the natural world. Through my workshops, courses, and demonstrations, I empower students to see the creative potential in overlooked natural materials—branches, leaves, and seedpods—while developing their own artistic voice. This teaching philosophy sits at the core of my work: using creativity as a pathway to deepen personal and collective relationships with nature.
I deliver sold-out workshops, teach for leading craft and design organisations, and have built a global student community. My teaching reaches a diverse audience, from beginners to experienced makers, across both in-person and digital learning environments.
Alongside my teaching, I maintain an active exhibition practice. I have exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions and been recognised as a finalist and award recipient in major art prizes, including the Australian Textile Art Award, International Art Textile Biennale, Environmental Art & Design Award, Australian Fibre Arts Award, and Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize.
My work is featured in galleries, high-end design spaces, and private collections nationally, and has been profiled across major media.
