Begin to Shape and Shrink Your Lantern

This step will take you through the process of shrinking and shaping your lantern for a firm fit to hold your glass jar.

Come and craft a beautiful wet-felted lantern and learn the wonderful age-old art of wet felting. Using super soft merino and luscious silk fibres, you will rub, agitate, and shape your lantern using warm soapy water.
You will be provided with enough wool and silk to create two lanterns and will aim to finish both within the session. If you do not complete your second lantern in the workshop time, you will be able to take home some materials to finish it at home.
Once your lantern is complete, you will place a battery-operated tealight into the lantern and witness the beautiful glow. Perfect for the festive season, winter nights, or any evening that needs a warm, peaceful glow.

I've always been drawn to the arts and the act of creating—it's been a constant thread throughout my life. Whether through painting, writing, design, or experimenting with new mediums, the creative process has always offered me a sense of purpose and joy. There's something deeply satisfying about learning a new skill, watching it take shape through practice, and seeing an idea come to life through my own hands. For me, creating isn’t just about the final product—it’s about the journey, the discovery, and the fulfillment that comes from turning imagination into something real.
As a Primary School teacher, I love watching my students learn and grow. It is important to me that I create a friendly, calm and welcoming environment so that all learners can achieve and enjoy the process of creating, no matter where they are on their learning journey, in a nurturing environment.
Working with wool, such wet and needle felting, ties us to history and the age old craft of creating with natural fibres. Whether it is a piece of art work, functional object or a piece to wear, working with wool is a beautiful medium that provides a calming and mindful process that allows our mind to wander while we stay focused on the creative experience.
