Jump into some Messy, Muddy fun in our amazing Wheel Throwing Taster classes on the Southside of Brisbane.
While wheel throwing pottery is a super fun and exciting experience, it’s also a lot harder than what TikTok and YouTube make it seem. Thankfully, our skilled teachers are here to guide every step of the way to introduce you to the addictive hobby that is pottery.
In this class, you will learn entry-level wheel throwing techniques including:
  • How to centre your pieces
  • Making a hole and setting up the walls
  • Growing height into your piece
  • How to shape with a flare out or a rounded
It’s best to come into this experience with absolutely no expectations on what you will make. We'll guide you through step by step and help you to connect with the experience that is wheel throwing in a mindful way.
Rather than focusing so much on what you’ll produce in your first-ever wheel throwing experience, we set the intention to help you find a connection to clay that is both easeful, fun and rewarding. Without expectations, it carves the way for you to be totally mesmerized by clay and maybe even a little surprised at what you can make.
You will have 4 balls of clay to play with. Across the class, you might make vessels like:
  • Some small ramekin bowls
  • A handle-less mug
  • A small, shallow dish
These classes are suitable for ages 13+. We have a total of six wheels in our studio space and can cater to individuals or groups. We are also available for private events, and we welcome inquiries for your group bookings.

  • 3/5 from Candice Lam, attended Sep 2024: The class venue is conveniently located inside a cafe. This means that parking can be busy though. Our class was mixed ages with adults and children and we got to throw 4 pieces of clay with the first piece being a practice to get our hands used to the techniques. The teacher is good at explaining the basic techniques for beginners on the wheel. Bisque firing can take a while as they hold many classes so be prepared to wait for yours to dry and be loaded into the kiln. And firing takes even longer after glazing, and the finish is hit and miss. Disappointingly, I've had a few pieces with bubbling in the clear glaze as well as a chipped piece. For the price, there are other workshops that take better care with your pieces.
  • 5/5 from Patricia Diesel, attended Aug 2024: Great teacher and a fun experience, would recommend for groups and individuals wanting a creative social morning
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Cooper, attended Aug 2024: I booked in by myself looking for a new hobby. The class was fantastic! Easy see one do one format of learning and support when centering your clay. The teacher was lovley and so supportive. Mud to mug is a fantastic oppertunity to try something new and have fun doing it. We were able to make 4 pieces and the room set up in the back of cream Cafe is realy good. Remember not to quit on you pieces, if you start a piece and squash it back down you run the risk of putting air in it and you have to re-claim the clay. Meaning you end up with less finished product. Imperfection is key in this. Ley the wobbles stay, it just shows charictor. Would and have recommended this course to others. I'm looking at the 6 week course for continued skills as well.

Karina is a fantastic teacher. She demonstrated each step with really clear and concise instructions, let us try the step, and then provided hands on guidance if we needed it. She also made the class super fun and had us all talking and laughing by the end, even though most of us didn't know each other walking in. Highly recommend!

  • 5/5 from Andreas Mayer, attended Jan 2024: A very friendly teacher and supportive environment - great for first timers like us! We got to make several items each, and while we were disappointed to learn that a mug with a handle can only be made in the advanced course, it was still great to make some pots and handleless mugs. A wonderful morning out :)
  • 4/5 from Safi Okanya, attended Jan 2024: The teacher was good at explaining. What l liked the most was how the clay can sometimes give it own shape and the possibility of corrections. Something l was surprised is that l thought we are going to also learn how the dirt can be trasnsormed into clay. To emprove, may be take a few minutes to also explain ways to form the clay. Have a bit more water to clean hands after the workshop. Thank you for your service.
