  • 5/5 from Taiga Luks, attended Jul 2026: Loved this workshop! It was a nice way to spend a Saturday. Shlomit was so kind, supportive and knowledgeable. She genuinely wants to share her craft with others and see them thrive. We were even a good amount of information at the beginning, and then had plenty of time to work on our projects. Shlomit even had supplies and wood to purchase after if you wanted to continue in your own time. I would recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to have a go, it would even work for couples or friends looking for something to do together or even families with late primary aged kids as its quite a safe activity when wearing the appropriate gloves. Thanks for helping me add another hobby to my long list, Shlomit! I'm off to do some whittling now.

Hi, I'm Shlomit, a professional wood carver and chainsaw carver from the Yarra Valley.
I've been working with wood since 2015 and usually create large projects for schools and councils using chainsaws and power tools.
I LOVE the peace of mind that whittling gives me – the quiet, dustless joy of seeing a piece of timber turn into an animal or a character in my hands – and I love to share my knowledge.
There's nothing better than seeing the satisfied smiles of students who have successfully created their own carving. I see whittling as a way to combine wood carving and active meditation, allowing us to be fully present in the moment.
My work is regularly exhibited in the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show Sculpture Exhibition and won the Art Almanac subscription prize in 2022.
