Spend some time learning how to carve in a fun, yet relaxing environment. Catie and Steve will take you through the steps to create your very own wooden creation.
Choose from a spoon, a little animal or a small bowl; whatever it is, you will carve something you will be proud to show everyone.
Using hand tools, you will start with a 'blank' learning how to read the timber grain and carve safely with traditional carving tools. You will spend time talking about safety and learning different ways to finish wooden items.
There will be a variety of timbers available to choose from. Pick the blank that speaks to you. Timbers and shapes vary from workshop to workshop due to timber availability.

  • 5/5 from Josh Pickering, attended Oct 2026: Caity and Steve were so accommodating and lovely. It was a very relaxed and happy environment and great location for the class. It was nice to have choice in what we made and guidance when needed! Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Chris Whiting, attended Oct 2026: Catie and Steven really looked after us, and gave their advice and guidance very readily and easily. Made us feel we could all master this!
  • 5/5 from Jenny Dalziel, attended Sep 2026: What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning! Thoroughly enjoyable workshop. Would highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Thomas Dutka, attended Aug 2026: What a great experience! I took my Dad as a birthday present and he absolutely loved it! Katie and Steve were exceptional teachers, and the whole workshop was so relaxed and informative. The ability to choose from carving a spoon or bowl, or carving an animal (e.g. wombat, echidna, bird, or dinosaur) is a nice touch, as it allows you to personalise your experience. The workshop is held in a beautiful cafe and creative space, and having such a diverse class full of different people was so engaging and fun. If you need a good way to destress, this is the workshop for you. I found the whole session to be incredibly relaxing and mindful and I've already recommended it to my family and friends for others to do. Look forward to attending again sometime in the future! Only thing to note, if you have accessibility difficulties, the workshop is help on the top floor of the cafe/creative space with stair access only, so please keep this in mind if you are unable to traverse stairs.
  • 5/5 from Ashleigh Stallard, attended May 2026: Loved this workshop! The hosts Catie and Steve were great teachers, letting us work to our own pace and guiding us individually as we progressed. • 5/5 from Chloe Willett, attended Mar 2026: It was super fun and the group blended well - we went as a date but had fun chatting with others. Oddly, the smell of carving was so soothing and great to end up with something to keep! They also had the option to purchase tools afterwards, which was popular.
  • 4/5 from Mitch Hogfalt, attended Mar 2026: I enjoyed the class, I got to hand carve a wooden spoon which I absolutely love. I think the instructors had some friends in the class and spent a lot of time with them letting them know about future classes/monthly class but it wasn’t really shared with the rest of the group. I have to admit I am not talkative when concentrated on the task at hand, would have liked a bit more instruction. I let the class and doubt it was even noticed.

I've been wanting to try wood carving for years and was so pleased to find this class only 10 minutes out of the CBD (and conveniently located above a yum cafe). Catie and Steve are lovely to work with - patient, relaxed and very knowledgeable. I usually can't be trusted with sharp objects, but survived unscathed with a beautiful camphor laurel bowl to show for it. It's worth noting the time allowed is generous enough that I didn't feel rushed at all. Looking forward to attending again.

Using traditional tools and methods for creating is important to us, and passing on these skills is our passion. We have always been the types of people who would prefer to make something with our hands than to buy off the shelf. Sometimes there is nothing better than making with your own hands.
We focus our workshops on the mindfulness of traditional making, and finding the technique that works for each person. Regardless if it is woodworking or leatherwork, we focus on teaching traditional ways to create. We find joy each time one of our workshop participants is beaming with pride when they step back and see what they have made.
Sustainability is also an important component of what we do. The timber we use is sustainably sourced from small, local timber suppliers. Our leather is sourced right here in Brisbane, where they have developed sustainable practices to produce Vegtan leather.
