At 1226 BIKES we understand that not everyone who rides a bike wants to be a pro bike mechanic. Some people just want to ride their bikes. Great! But a little bit of knowledge goes a long way… It never hurts to know how to fix your gears when they’re not shifting properly… Can be really useful halfway up a hill you’re trying to climb a hill! Or maybe it’s a puncture that got you and you just need to get the wheel off, change the tube and put it back on without the brakes rubbing or the shifting going out for the rest of the ride.

We’re here to help! Whether you just ride to the local shops or you’re a mum servicing the home fleet of kids commuters, a bike-packer needing to know how to fix hiccups on the trail, or a competent mechanic looking to expand your skills into bike building; we’ve got you covered. We are the best at training home bicycle mechanics!

We offer a range of courses from beginner to advanced to keep you and your bike(s) rolling. Our three-hour tuning and maintenance course is a bite-sized chunk of knowledge gold with an emphasis on gear and brake tuning. You’ll also learn a heavy sprinkling of other areas of the bike. Exactly which areas are decided by the group on the day. Yep, you bring your bike and we all decide what to work on. It’s really cool and specifically designed to give you a firm grasp on the basics of tuning and maintaining your own bike.

Teacher was great, Arielle was very informative, very friendly and took his time interacting with every participant.
I liked that every participant could bring in their own bicycles we could all learn from each other as every one had different bicycles and different knowledge.
Found the venue easy to find, was a little cold in the warehouse, so rug up if its a cold day. Other than that, good value for money to pay to get a better understanding of the bicycle.

A really genuine and fun course that I would recommend to those who can do more than change a tyre but less than indexing gears or changing a chain

Great course, most useful and practical, glad I did it, looking forward to implementing learnings at home.

Great entry level session, left wanting to learn more. Luckily for me they also hold advanced training classes.

Was an excellent experience. Class content was comprehensive while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and fun. Not easy to manage different bikes and systems but Sam and Ben were able to keep all engaged throughout. Delivered everything that was promised, and I will look to join future classes! Big thank you!

This was a very worthwhile course. The teacher was very knowledgeable and explained the material in simple & clear ways. We were shown how to check the wear/stretch. He explained how to set and tune the rear derailleur.
He explained some possible faults if changing gears was still problematic. We were shown how to race tune rim/calliper brakes. And were shown how to put on a tire without using tire levers. I would recommend this course to anybody. Going to book in for one of the advanced courses. Thank you.

A great class led by a fine instructor. A hands on experience with many opportunities to have all your questions answered. Feeling more confident now ro tackle gear indexing.

Ben & Steve were fantastic teachers, both fun, approachable and keen to pass on their skills to each person in the class. The 3 hour course was the perfect length to cover all the essentials plus how to correctly clean a bike, something that I previously wasn’t confident doing correctly. Ten points, great course!

Teachers were both knowledgeable and friendly.
Course is an easy paced, basic introduction but still full of tips and tricks for those who've been riding for a while.

The teachers were great, l did learn some things but l think it should be made clear that this is not a course for a 3 speed shopping bike.

Teachers friendly and welcoming. Clearly knew their subject. Related well to the group. A little directionless at times depending on the class questions. Understand why, but might be good to emphasise, in your advertising, that student questions will drive the direction of the class. I have tried a couple of things l i learned to test myself and your directions to solutions. Thanks for the class.
