Bass and Flinders Distillery was founded in 2009 on the Mornington Peninsula with a passion for adventure and a desire to create a range of high quality, artisanal gins brandies and liqueurs, that truly reflect our home and heritage.
Proudly the first distillery on the Mornington Peninsula, our original inspiration was drawn from a love of classic brandies produced in France. Using many of the same traditional production techniques, we set out to produce a premium aged spirit, our Ochre brandy, that proves just how good Australian brandy can be. Our location in the wine growing region of the Mornington Peninsula provided the perfect setting to pursue our dream.
Drawing inspiration from our coastal home where the sea meets the wine-growing hinterland, we handcraft our grape-based eau de vie spirit right here at the distillery, using traditional methods from the Charente region of France. Victorian wine specially crafted to our desired flavour profile is double distilled in small batches using a gas-fired alembic pot still - a method designed to celebrate the flavour and viscosity provided by the grapes. This is our definition of quality.
We are on a constant journey of discovery, developing new styles of gins, brandies and liqueurs. We are always scouting for unique, native botanicals that capture the essence of our local flora and define our true sense of place.
We are the ‘Spirit of the Mornington Peninsula’.

Such a scrumptious display of finger sandwiches, cheeses, charcuterie, tarts, cakes and warm scones with jam and cream. A full sized gin and tonic to begin with that you can select from a curated menu and also a paddle of four gins you can mix with tonic water and ice yourself on the table. We were 25 minutes late and there was a full house but nothing was too much trouble. There was a lady who took time out to introduce us to their gins especially the Angry Ant gin that is infused with ant pheromones. Curious to try yourself?

Went with a friend and I was surprised by the amount of food. I’ll come back with a friend but treat it more like a lunch.

Very informative class with lots of tasting. Great fun creating our own Gin flavours, then take home a bottle of our creation. The teacher was very friendly & helpful. Nice to have cheese & bikkies to finish. Recommended.

This was a fun and fast moving guided tour of gin making. Erin was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The distillery venue is modern, spacious and attractive. We loved going home with a full bottle of our personal gin recipe so the class price covered both the class and a bottle of gin!

My family and I loved this class, It was very interesting and informative. The presenter was great. The venue is lovely and it was nice staying afterwards for a cocktail and some snacks. I loved that we were able to tailor a gin to our own taste, name it and reorder whenever we like. Overall a great session!

I had quite an enjoyable afternoon, and now I have a delicious bottle of gin!
If you’re booking on a Sunday be aware that the class is actually 11-1, they do send an email to advise of this but it went to my junk mail, so we were late.
The only piece of constructive criticism I have is that the cheese and biscuits could have been served earlier, rather than at the end, as they could have helped break up the different flavours of botanicals

Adrian took us through the history of gin and its origins, and it's resurgence in popularity in the last 15 years. We tasted and blended with his help to make our own unique gin, bottled for our enjoyment in the next day or so; luckily the blend has been saved for future reblending, because mine was pretty delicious

With a teeny negroni on arrival this wonderful experience couldn’t start any better! Our host and gin expert Angelica was full of knowledge about gin and it’s history. We tasted various botanicals and each concocted a masterpiece of our own! This experience was meant to go for 2 hours but they just kept giving us more and more tastings and cheese plates until 2.5 nearly 3 hours later we were happy, tipsy, full of new facts about gin and went back to our accommodation with a 500ml bottle of our own blend! Such a perfect experience and Angelica was the perfect host! Many thanks!
