This workshop will take your love for bookbinding even further. You will learn how to turn patterns on paper or pieces of material into a beautiful book cover to take home. By the end of the class, you'll have your unique creation to use with a number of book designs.
Don’t worry if you're new to bookbinding - this class is perfect for beginners. You'll be guided through the process step-by-step, making it easy and enjoyable. You may feel a bit nervous at first, but you'll quickly gain confidence as you dive into this hands-on activity.
During the workshop, you will work with materials like card, glue, and your selected fabric pieces. You'll also learn a quick bookbinding technique suitable for gift cards and special book forms.
  • Select portions of a pattern or material for your book cover
  • Glue them to card and secure the edges
  • Dress the inside of the cover to conceal the ends
  • Use the covers for concertina or sewn book structures
By the end of the class, you'll not only have learned a new skill but also created a unique book cover that reflects your personal style. I am an architect and I learned Calligraphy in school. Becoming a member of the WA Calligraphers' Guild revived this skill and I extended my interest in lettering into cutout forms and folded card structures. I have contributed several articles to the American magazine Bound & Lettered and have learned from visiting Calligraphers from the US and UK. My works have been sold at the Between the Sheets book exhibition which takes place every two years and is at the TAFE gallery in Perth again this August.
