Not quite your birthday, but just as much fun when you unwrap your parcel, brush away the botanicals to see what you and nature have created.

Share your beautiful silk printed item, show off to friends, give as a gift or simply take home some of West Australia's beautiful South West and memories of a lovely day well spent with friends.

Head to Roelands, where you will be inspired by the wonderful views and guided by Barbara to create a timeless and unique keepsake. Great as a souvenir of a trip to the South West or a gift for yourself or a loved one.
You’ll work with fresh, dried, and semi-dried leaves and petals (depending on the season) and mordants using steam and pressure to imprint patterns and designs onto silk—a scarf, cushion, or garment of your choice (choose below). Join our small workshop (4-6 students) where you’ll meet new friends and experience the wonder and excitement of natural eco-printing and take home something truly unique, as well as a big smile! The class will be held at Barbara's home in Roelands, just 15 minutes from Australind, 25 minutes north of Bunbury, and around 2 hours from Perth.
What we’ll do:
  • Over morning tea (provided), you'll look at examples of eco-printing and a sample book.
  • You'll choose your botanicals from the boxes we have or what you have brought.
  • After preparing your material, you'll add the botanicals and gather them into a bundle.
  • Your bundles will steam whilst we tidy up and then enjoy a leisurely lunch and the wonderful views.
  • Then you unwrap and marvel at what you and nature have created together.

FAQ

Can I reach you by public transport?
Sadly, there is no public transport to Roelands.
Is the craft room accessible?
Our Craft Room is up 5 steps. There is a sturdy handrail, but there is no ramp, so it is not wheelchair accessible. (But if you have a venue I'm happy to discuss bringing the class to you.)
Can my 10 yr old come to the class?
No, this is an adult only class.
See more FAQs
Can I bring my own item to print?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own item. Botanical dying works with any natural fibres such as silk, cotton or linen. Please be sure to soak and then wash in delicate, non-eucalyptus, neutral washing detergent. Rinse in warm water and dry out of direct sunlight prior to class.
I'd like to make items to use at my wedding. Is this possible?
Of course. Contact me and we can work it out.
Can I make more than one item?
Yes, we suggest choosing one large and one small or two - three smaller items to get the most out of your day. You will also get some sample pieces to play with which can be used for other crafts.
I don't see the size of scarf I'd like - can I get other sizes?
Yes, I can get other sizes. Please let me know what you are looking for and I'll get back to you.

I’ve been crafting ever since I can remember. It is a love that was passed down through my grandmothers and mum. We were always creating something, from making clothes on the sewing machine, knitting & crochet, to making cards and gifts with paper and cloth or food. I was blessed to have a wonderful art teacher, Gerry Ffrench, who inspired me to draw and paint. Dad taught me photography and Grandad inspired my love of local history and nature. So I couldn’t help but be happiest creating something. When my husband & I moved to the beautiful South West of WA, a craft room was a must, and when we designed our own home, it was top of my wish list. Now we are here, I’d love to share the views and space with you. The garden is a work in progress – well, the whole house is, truth be told, but the love is here and craftiness is waiting to be unleashed. I’ve been teaching crafts for over fifteen years, mostly paper-craft of one sort or another, but I’m always up to learn new things and hope you are too. Sometimes I’ll be the one teaching and other times we’ll have ‘guest tutors’ who are experts in their own field to share their love and knowledge. My goal is always to connect with each other and have fun, create something unique (not just slightly different versions of the same thing) and build friendships alongside new skills.
