These embellished, beaded brooches are close to my heart. Intimate distillations of larger sculptural works, they were the first pieces of jewellery I crafted and have been a touchstone in my practice for a decade. Palm-sized, intimate sculptures intended to travel with you, I think of them as small but powerful spells of invitation or deflection, depending on one’s mood. They foster connection and function as amour.
I'm delighted to be hosting a very special Beaded Brooch Wearable Art Workshop this October, where you are invited to create your own precious piece.
Join artist Louise Meuwissen at Sunday Studio for a day celebrating adornment, colour, and personal expression.
In a joyous, relaxed, and supportive environment, we will explore couture beading techniques, lean into our personal aesthetic sensibilities, play with colour and form, and work with a thoughtfully curated selection of luxurious vintage materials, including glass and ceramic beads, pearls, semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystals, velvets, silks, and other fossicked treasures from Louise's personal collection. Whether you're completely new to creating with your hands or already love making, you'll leave with a unique piece to wear, treasure, or display.
This is my first time teaching this class in Melbourne, and spaces are limited. It's going to be gorgeous. I can't wait to make with you.
