Prepare your piece

You will choose your bug, we will photocopy it and enlarge to size so that it fits the mould that it will be fired on.


Make your bug

Make Your Bug

Use your image to create the bug. This is where most of your time will be spent. You will be taken through all the steps to make your base and pieces to go on the base. You will learn how to cut and shape glass, work with the glass, grind it and attach to base.

We will then fire your piece - first flat and then onto a mould.

Spring is in the air! Time to spruce up your outdoor space. Come and make a fun and funky fused glass piece for your garden! You can make a bug, garden stakes, or suncatchers—whatever appeals to you to jazz up your garden. This is a fun and creative workshop where you can let your creativity go wild!
In this class, you will have a quick introduction to the basics of glass fusing. You will then learn how to make your pieces, decide on your design, and spend most of your time producing your artwork.
You have the creative freedom to choose to make any design for your garden, which you can either make into a 3D piece or hang in the garden. You can either slump your piece into a 3D shape, or we will supply wire or hooks which will be embedded in your piece so that you can hang it if you like.
Whatever you decide, these beautiful pieces will look so wonderful in a garden or courtyard, adding a pop of colour to your outdoor space.
Please note:
  • If you would like to schedule your session during weekdays, we are very flexible and can accept as few as one or two bookings during a weekday as we have the capacity to work with you. You can request to book in at 10am or at 1.30pm weekdays this way for your session.
  • You will need to leave the piece at our studio to be fired. Our turnaround time is two to three weeks.
We also offer a Butterfly and Dragonfly workshop, which you will love if this class appeals to you!
What you'll get
  • Includes all glass, materials, and wire hooks for the workshop, as well as the use of all tools and equipment needed to make your piece.
  • Structured workshop, small group, practical hands-on class, and attention from the instructor.

Knowledge required
This class is targeted at people with no glass fusing skills, although glass cutting skills will be an advantage. We will teach you everything you need to know to make a good piece.
What to bring
  • Bring a black Sharpie, ruler, pen, and pencil.
  • If you want to wear safety glasses, you can bring your own or purchase them here online (see extras).
  • Wear casual clothing and enclosed shoes.
  • You can bring photo examples of the piece that you are wanting to make. This is a good starting point as it can save you time in the classroom.
