Duldig Studio is proud to offer The Art of Landscape, a series of inspiring Tuesday morning workshops throughout June at the Duldig Studio museum and sculpture garden. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your artistic skills, this welcoming series offers a unique opportunity to explore drawing and painting techniques in a creative and historically rich environment.
Led by award-winning artist and experienced educator Helene Oberman, each session will guide participants through different mediums and methods, including pencil, charcoal, pastel, gouache, and oil painting. You'll begin with a short presentation and demonstration, followed by hands-on practise, all while surrounded by the influential works of Karl and Slawa Duldig. Weather permitting, some sessions will take place outdoors in nearby Central Park or Hedgely Dene Gardens, embracing the plein air tradition practiced by the Duldigs themselves.
Each week will explore different techniques and offer individual support, time to build on previous work, and a chance to return to sites for further development. Attendees will also get a rare glimpse at archival landscape works by Slawa Duldig not currently on display:
  • Week 1 | 3 June
  • This first week will include an overview and tour of the Duldig Studio’s newly curated exhibition and historic rooms and the opportunity to view and discuss Karl and Slawa’s landscapes from archives not currently on display.
  • Demonstration and experimentation with drawing materials and techniques to record observations of the landscape.
  • Preliminary sketches which can be adapted in the next sessions.
  • Week 2 | 10 June
  • Demonstration and experimentation with pastel techniques. Reference to specific works by Karl and Slawa Duldig highlighting this medium. Central Park visit to explore this medium through observation of the landscape.
  • Week 3 | 17 June
  • Demonstration and experimentation with watercolour techniques (Gouache). Reference to specific works by Karl and Slawa Duldig highlighting this medium. Central Park or Hedgely Dene Gardens visit to explore this medium through observation of the landscape.
  • Week 4 | 24 June
  • Demonstration and experimentation with oil painting techniques. Reference to specific works by Karl and Slawa Duldig highlighting this medium. Central Park or Hedgely Dene Gardens visit to explore this medium through observation of the landscape.
The workshops offer flexibility for participants to attend individual sessions or the full series at a discounted rate.
Expect a relaxed and enriching environment where you can develop new skills, connect with fellow art lovers, and be creatively inspired by both history and nature.

The Duldig family home was opened as a museum in 1996. In 2002, the association, The Duldig Gallery Inc. became incorporated as a public museum and art gallery to operate the Duldig Studio. It is a tax exempt charity and recognised as a deductible gift recipient institution under the Commonwealth Government’s Cultural Gifts Program. At this time a gallery space was added to the original house so that changing exhibitions could be mounted. Within the house a number of rooms are maintained as they were during the family’s residence. Karl’s original studio, with kiln, tools and work across all periods has been kept as it was left by the artist, and in the adjoining garden the bronze and terracotta sculptures also remain in situ.
