If you have been wanting to explore DIY wood projects but haven't been sure where to start, give this class a go! You will design and carve your own wooden spoon, which you can take home and use with pride.
Your artist-instructor for this class, Alma, will begin with a discussion on types of wood, a guide for the tools you will be using during class, and a general overview of various wooden carving techniques.
You will get the chance to practice the correct usage of hand tools and feel confident in making your very own spoon. No previous experience is necessary for this class, as you will be guided every step of the way.
After you have the basic understanding required to carve a spoon, Alma will lead you in using different carving knives to make the spoon you have designed. At the end of the class, you will get to take home a one-of-a-kind hand-made object that will last a lifetime.

  • 5/5 from Ella Critchlow-Salvidge, attended May 2026: Alma was a lovely teacher. She first told us about all the kinds of timber available and the pros and cons of each for their specific use. She then provided a demonstration to show everybody how they make their spoon. Some people made little bowls, one person made a measuring cup (that guy was sooo talented). She came round to help us clean up our carving when we needed it and was super flexible in what we wanted to do. We then sanded everything down to make it super smooth before adding a food safe coating to it. Now I have to go online to buy my own tools because I think I want to do more!!!!
