Painting Workshop for Beginners

Learn the fundamentals of painting in Melbourne!

6 hours Class size 8 to 12 guests       $195

Want to learn new painting skills? Join your teacher, Sheng Yi Lee in this hands-on painting workshop, where she is eager to share her passion and years of experience with you!
This six-hour painting workshop is open to all levels. It is best suited to complete beginners and those who are getting back into painting after a long hiatus. While intermediate students may be familiar with many concepts that will be taught, this class can offer some challenges to improve existing painting skills.
We will first start with the water-based medium, gouache. We will discuss colour mixing and tonal values and put our theory into practice with a painting study of fruits and vegetables. There will be a 30-minute lunch break in the afternoon.
There will be demonstrations and one-on-one guidance throughout the class, so you can feel supported each step of the way. By the end of the class, you will take home one small finished painting!

Established in 2022, Studio Inqu is an arts space dedicated to painters, beginners and lovers of art. Based in Kew, Melbourne, we offer paint and sip classes, art courses and private workshops in an intimate venue off Cotham Road.
Owner and artist, Jen Wheatley, believes making art is an opportunity to be challenged and develop new skills – to be busy yet relaxed; to be productive while having a good time - and if art can be made into a social activity – all the better!
Studio manager and teacher, Sheng Yi Lee, discovered her love of teaching in 2017 while running private art classes for children from her inner city apartment. Her young students had as much to teach her about art as she did them – and this influenced her playful and open approach to art education.
Clarice, our newest teacher, is an international artist with a bubbly personality. She has taught workshops in UK, Europe and Australia.
Whether you want to slap some paint on a canvas or become the next Matisse, Jen, Sheng and Clarice look forward to welcoming you to Studio Inqu.
"I recently attended the painting class and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, guiding us through each step with clear and easy-to-follow instructions. The class atmosphere was friendly and encouraging, making it perfect for both beginners and more experienced painters. By the end of the class, I was thrilled with the progress I had made and the piece I had created." – Qiu Jin, Paint and Sip Class for Beginners
