We talk about the history and the philosophy of Kintsugi before we get started. Then, you'll learn how to mend broken pottery using gold mica powder and epoxy.

Modern Kintsugi is the art of Japanese pottery restoration, where you can learn how to mend broken ceramics using epoxy glue and mica gold powder. The traditional technique used gold powder and lacquer to mend the pottery. In just two and a half hours, you'll understand the difference between the traditional and modern Kintsugi technique, the history and philosophy of Kintsugi, and follow a step-by-step guide to create your own masterpiece.

During the workshop, we'll introduce you to the history of Kintsugi, where breakage and repair are regarded as integral parts of an object's story, rather than flaws to conceal. Under our guidance, you'll learn the contemporary approach to Kintsugi using epoxy adhesive and mica powder—a less allergenic, fast-drying, and cost-effective alternative to precious metals and lacquer.

Important info:

Please note, private booking requires a minimum of 10 people per session. If fewer than 10 people book, we will make it a public class for others to join. Please mention it during the booking if you are requesting a private class during your booking or we will treat it as a regular booking.
Not recommended for pregnant participants due to the use of epoxy glue and mica gold dust.
This workshop is suitable for adults, and participants aged 12 and above can join with an adult. An adult needs to be present and accompany the kids during the workshop due to the use of broken crockery pieces.
Plates for repair will be provided during the session.
Please keep in mind that modern kintsugi is not food-safe due to the use of epoxy adhesive, so not suitable for the repair of cooking or eating utensils
Please allow some extra time after the class in case you want your bowl to set properly. Please keep in mind that Kintsugi is about patience, and it takes time for the epoxy to set. The bowl will set completely in 24 hours.

The studio itself was easy to find, and the class exceeded what I expected from a birthday treat. Our teacher was warm and easy to listen to, and struck the right balance throughout - giving us space to work through the technique on our own, but always close by when a piece needed an extra hand or a question came up. What I didn't expect was how much the process itself would stay with me. There's a moment early on where you glue your first two broken pieces back together, and something about doing that - carefully, deliberately, watching a gold seam form where the break used to be - caught me off guard. The last few years of my life haven't been simple, and holding those two pieces together, watching the crack turn into something gold rather than something hidden, felt like more than a craft technique. It felt like a pretty accurate description of what putting yourself back together actually looks like. I left with a finished piece, but also with a slightly different way of thinking about breakage - that it doesn't have to be disguised to be beautiful, sometimes it's the thing worth showing. A wonderful class, and a genuinely thoughtful gift to receive.

Rashmi is an architect turned crafter and small business owner with a vibrant cafe in the Docklands. She is someone who loves art and learning something new every day. Her journey to becoming an artist started with one art project at a time. She started making Kokedama’s and polymer clay earrings for a bit of fun. She loved it so much that she gifted a lot to her friends and which birthed her enthusiasm for handmade things. Soon they started making them together, and they all loved them so much that we decided to share the art with more people.

Creating something handmade is a fun process with lots of laughter and good coffee. You make new friends who love plants and art as much as you do.
