2.5 hours Location Brunswick Class size 8 to 16 guests   $140

Looking for fun things to do in Melbourne? Join chef Tracey in this fun cooking class, where you will learn how to cook a variety of Malaysian dishes.
Having just returned from a chef’s holiday to Penang, including a stay in a Durian tree house, Tracey will share with you what she has learned on her travels through this rich culinary landscape.
This cuisine is particularly flavourful and colourful with Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian ingredients and cooking techniques.
This class’ menu features fish egg and turmeric custard steamed in banana leaf, roti jala (fishnet crepe), chicken Kapitan (curry), and to finish a local dessert with a Melbourne twist: coconut chia pudding with lychee jelly.
At the end, sit down and enjoy the delicious food you've made!

  • 5/5 from Anna Xia, attended May 2025: Tracey shared with us her knowledge of Asian cuisine through a little Malaysian flavour escapade. Chicken kapitan with roti jala, steamed fish in custard wrapped in banana leaf and a chia pudding. Neatly compacted into a 2 and a half hour class. Our tastebuds were abuzz with spices and oriental aromatics from the moment we entered the classroom. Coming to Brunswick kitchen is always a delight. See you next time!
  • 5/5 from James Curtis, attended Feb 2023: Beautiful meal, teacher was very friendly and instructive, very interactive class. Would recommend this class for sure.
  • 5/5 from Grace Soong, attended Sep 2022: Tracey was very personable and professional at the same time - made our first time at Brunswick Kitchen very comfortable and fun. Thank you Tracey for a lovely session, will definitely be back again.

Chef Tracey is a classically trained chef who after many years of working at senior level in the vibrant Melbourne restaurant scene moved to Hanoi to immerse herself in Vietnamese and Asian cuisine. She helped establish KOTO, a grass-roots charity that helps street kids to free themselves from the cycle of poverty through hospitality training.
In April 2008 she opened the Hanoi Cooking Centre, voted one of the best cooking schools in the world by Leisure & Travel magazine.
Now back in her old stamping ground of Brunswick, Tracey looks forward to sharing her love of good food through her cooking classes for keen home cooks, professionals, corporates, kids and teens.
And if you don’t have time to cook call in at Brunswick Kitchen for a chat and a take-home meal.
