Recent reviews of Beer and Smoke BBQ Cooking Class

  • 4/5 from Rebecca Ellison, attended Aug 2026: The food was good and we enjoyed the cooking demonstration overall, but the craft beer pairing was a real letdown. Being served Great Northern’s as the “craft beer” pairings was disappointing, particularly in Brisbane where there are so many genuinely excellent local craft breweries to choose from. With a little more thought put into the beer selection, this could have been a much better experience
  • 5/5 from Shaun Duncan, attended Jul 2026: Great afternoon! Thoroughly enjoyed the tips the food!
  • 5/5 from David Hawes, attended Oct 2024: Great day at the BBQ day. Everything about the day was handled in a very professional manner. The teachers were great and very open to questions. My wife and I learnt so much and very much enjoyed the cooked food!! I highly recommend this class and will be booking another class in the future.
  • 4/5 from Wessels Rochelle, attended Oct 2024: The beef short ribs were delicious! The peri peri chicken was very spicy but the chicken was nice and moist.
  • 5/5 from Jung Lau, attended May 2024: Excellent culinary skills. The meats were succulent, aromatic and delicious. Pork, chicken and beef steaks cooked by the experts can beat those of several famous restaurants.
  • 4/5 from Chris Campbell, attended May 2024: Speakers & headset microphone would be handy due to road traffic noise. Also be valuable to give some guidance on lighting & stabilising the smoker coals/flame as part of the course. Cloth apron would also be better.
  • 2/5 from Nathan Fenech, attended May 2024: Chef was good had good knowledge. But was expecting more than 50 grams of beef short rib and salad there was a small rump steak but for $160 I was think we would get some brisket or pulled pork. Was supposed to be 3hrs but was finished in 2hrs. Only got 2 beers of a boring light beer of some description.
  • 5/5 from Callum Lauder, attended Apr 2024: Really good class, answered all our question really informative The venue was great for the smoke class Was a good value on money wasn’t expecting to have so much food to eat
  • 5/5 from Paul Duncalfe, attended Apr 2024: Great class. Very informative.Teachers were fantastic. Awesome food. Will be booking in some other classes soon.
  • 4/5 from Darren Maxey, attended Apr 2024: He was a very confident chief who provided us with lots of information. Not a lot of opportunity for group participation.
  • 5/5 from Shane Ryland, attended Oct 2023: great teacher and very informative with class and experiences. everything supplied and we get to do some chopping as well. we taste tested every thing that we were shown and that was a great experience. we are now working out what our next class will be. highly recommend to any one

  • 5/5 from Jernej Kavka, attended Jun 2023: We learned heaps about smoking and bbq meat, super happy. My mates and I had great fun, can’t wait to show off my new skills!

  • 5/5 from Eric Straw, attended Feb 2023: Kenny was the best! Informative and enjoyable would definitely recommend to others and I would do another class.
  • 4/5 from Lockie Beecham, attended Jan 2023: The teacher and all the staff involved were lovely and friendly. The teacher was informative, personable and tried to include the group in the activity. The venue was great although it was a hot Brisbane day so an industrial fan or two for future Summer classes certainly wouldn't go astray. It was a fun experience but I think the value for money proposition could be improved a little (pints not pots, people!) and maybe involve the group a bit more hands-on in the actual smoking process (obviously time dictates that a lot of the preparation needs to be done in advance). Nevertheless, the reverse sear Cape Grim rump was amazing and tender, as were the smoked beef short ribs. We had a great time. Thank you.
  • 5/5 from Alan Wells, attended Sep 2022: New experience that i really enjoyed Excellent teacher Great steaks Great chicken Excellent brisket Easy going environment
  • 4/5 from Jeanne Carpenter, attended May 2022: The teacher was good. He was happy to answer questions and smokers and meat preparation
  • 5/5 from Michelle Dan, attended Jan 2022: This class was a birthday present for my Husband. He said it was the best present ever. The teacher was fantastic and shared his knowledge with everyone. The food used was top quality. My husband is excited to do another course.

The BBQ Cooking School

4.8 (568)

BBQ Cooking Classes, Corporate Events & Catering. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Caberra, Perth and the Hunter Valley.
BBQ School was founded in 2004 by internationally trained chef and passionate foodie Ben Farley who identified that while many Aussies were really into cooking on the BBQ, most only had one or two recipes they knew how to cook really well.
Showing keen BBQ’ers how to prepare and confidently cook a collection of simple, effective and tasty recipes was the best way forward and so in 2004 Ben turned his back on a career in Sydney and London high profile restaurants and founded BBQ School.
In our classes, we assume no knowledge but have found that the more a student knows about BBQ cooking, the more they learn from our experienced chef presenters.
To date around 90, 000 people have been taught through the BBQ School.
Our head office is in Willoughby, Sydney but we also operate regular classes in Sydney's Centennial Park, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Hunter Valley and each year the School continues to grow in response to people who wish to cook with more flair when entertaining.
