Paint and Paella: Black Cockatoo

Learn new skills from an expert at this fun Melbourne workshop.

6.5 hours Class size 6 to 12 guests       $130

Why not treat yourself and spend the day learning to paint this magnificent painting in a beautiful outdoor Garden Studio with Senoritas' Art Class!
Paint your way through to lunch and then break for a taste of some flavourful Paella and sip on some Sangria to get the creative juices flowing for the rest of the class. You'll also get to listen and groove to some classic Latin tunes too!
In this beginner-friendly class, a friendly art instructor will guide you step by step on how to create “Black Cockatoo”. You will learn how to draw the outline, build the layers of colour using heavy-bodied acrylic paint, and create texture using a palette knife and modelling paste.
Get hands-on and learn how to mix colours and create depth with light and shade! Maybe you want to paint something fabulous as a gift for your special someone, or something to hang on your wall.
At the end of this class, you'll have your very own completed “Black Cockatoo” artwork to display in your home and admire. The photos show you the results that you can achieve at this workshop even if you are a first-time painter!

  • 5/5 from Kathy Car, attended May 2024: Thanks Nikki for a fabulous day. I was a bit apprehensive at the start but you created such a welcoming, relaxed environment in your lovely garden studio with music and welcome bubbles. The painting process was a new journey for me and I was astounded that I could create something I would be happy to hang on the wall at home. The paella and sangria lunch was yummy and the left over taken home was even better after a full day painting. Thank you again and I look forward to coming back and doing a larger canvas.
  • 5/5 from Mandy Mercuri, attended May 2024: Thanks Nikki for designing this amazing Black Cockatoo for our group....another amazing day thanks so much!
  • 5/5 from Sue Walker, attended May 2024: Fabulous and fun class - Nikki is a friendly, welcoming and supportive teacher. All materials were provided, and the lovely paella lunch was delicious. Everyone was so happy with their finished product due to the guidance and support provided, and lots of opportunity for personal creativity.
  • 5/5 from Diana Farrow, attended May 2024: What a great day and experience. All 8 of us who attended in person did an amazing job painting our black cockatoo. It wouldn’t have been possible without Nikki’s direction and advice. Thank you for the all day experience, help and of course a beautiful lunch! Well worth every cent. So glad I signed up!
  • 5/5 from Mel Birtchnell, attended May 2024: I joined a few friends for this class. I have not painted with acrylics before (and barely have painted with watercolours) so am a beginner beginner. Nikki was AMAZING. She was patient and had broken the painting down into such possible steps that even I could follow along. I couldn’t believe the grey lead shape and smeared teal background paint would ever become something lovely let alone something resembling Nikki’s stunning black cockatoo. Yet, step by step by step by FUN step, there emerged a beautiful black cockatoo! I’m so happy with it - and everyone’s paintings were delightfully unique and sooo beautiful! The venue (Nikki’s studio) was great. Warm with lovely winter sun. Nikki provided every material we could possibly need and when we ran out, there was more of everything! Literally, the instruction was: bring nothing. And we needed nothing! The vegetarian paella was absolutely delicious (the best I’ve ever eaten) and the sangria was so good. Such generous serves, too. I learnt so much - colour mixing, painting in layers of paint, breaking things down into shapes, etc. Probably the most important thing I learnt is that a painting often doesn’t start looking good (at all!) until the detailing that comes at the end point. It was so cool to just let go of needing each step to look great and to just wait and see what beauty emerged. Thanks Nikki - this was a liberating lesson for me, who thought the weird in-between phase was because I couldn’t create art! I think it was great value for money - though more than I would normally spend on an activity. It was fully worth the money, especially with lunch, sangria, all the materials and Nikki’s time and expertise. I would love to bring my three children and husband (not quite a senorita!) but I think the total cost might be prohibitive for all of us to come (although so worth the cost!). I liked the entire day, most! Thanks so much Nikki and partner. I hope to come again! Xx

The Senoritas' Art Workshop started in 2019 when Nikki Carter invited 5 friends to come to a full day workshop who had never painted. They all painted amazing paintings and proved that all you need is an Art Guide or Instructor to help you with each step of the painting and someone to help make you brave! Nikki paints every day, working with students and commissions, her passion for painting, colour and fun inspires first-time painters. Nikki finds that astonishing results are achieved from people that don't think they can draw or paint!
