Ever wanted to learn how to use a spinning wheel? Now is your chance! In this live-streaming course, you will learn simple tips for using a spinning wheel.
Spinning is the twisting technique where the fibre is drawn out, twisted and wound onto a bobbin.
This is a virtual class in which you will spin along with the teacher in real time. Your friendly teacher, Narda, will also show you some of her award-winning pieces, from fleece to finished pieces, to inspire you to create your pieces using a spinning wheel.
These sessions also cover how to dye your fleece using food colouring & how to ply.
With some practice, you can use your own yarn to make beautiful pieces for family and friends. This yarn can be used for weaving, felting projects, knitting, and crocheting.
You will feel confident using your spinning wheel to create beautiful, fully designed pieces at the end of the three sessions!
What you'll get in your craft kit
  • 100 grams of fleece to practice on.
  • 150 grams (approx) of fine merino for the dyeing session
  • dyeing supplies for the sessions - including citric acid & a pair of disposable gloves
  • A list of suppliers to source spinning supplies in Australia.

As a fibre artist, designer, teacher, and history enthusiast, I am fascinated by all forms of colour and pattern in daily life as expressions of culture and identity.
I love teaching and sharing what I know, helping people to stretch their skills, create new experiences & explore their own creativity.
I firmly believe there is no such thing as a non-creative person.
Everyone has the potential to be creative.
It could be in cooking, gardening, interior design, writing, or, as in my case, fibre arts.
As a teacher with over 30 years of experience, I get a real buzz when a student who hasn't tried a specific craft before - not only masters it, but becomes excited by the ways they can use their new skill.
I started in Jewellery design when I was in my early 20s, and then discovered that all the things I love to do (design, dye, draw, felt, paint, etc.) can be applied to the practice of 'Hand or Surface Embroidery'.
I taught the 'Foundation course' in Colour & Design at the International School of Colour & Design.
I am a published textile designer & also run week-long textile experiences in Tasmania every January.
I have exhibited many of my pieces in a variety of spaces & had one piece auctioned off to raise money for the Embroiderers Guild of NSW.
My influences come from various parts of history, both ancient and modern, as well as the natural world (especially birds & fish) & the written word.
I love to read.
I collect folktales & poetry.
These interests often show up in my work - in quotes or images inspired by what I've read.
I bring all of these experiences & interests to my teaching of hand embroidery and encourage students to explore the potential of this ancient art form.
I also utilise these influences in my other design practices, including wirework, upcycling clothing & free form crochet and knitting.
I also teach spinning - I dye & spin my own yarn.
Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
