FAQ

Can I still do the painting course if I have never picked up a brush?
Absolutely! About 80% of our beginners have never picked up a brush before. You don’t need natural talent—just a willingness to learn. In fact, complete beginners are often easier to teach because they have fewer habits to unlearn. You’re definitely not alone!
What genre and style of painting do you teach?
Bonny is a visionary artist who teaches traditional realism as a strong foundation for developing your own style. Classes explore realism, abstract principles, mood, composition and expression, while encouraging students to discover their unique approach to paint.

Bonny Hut was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and raised in Durban, where she completed a National Diploma in Fine Art and a Certificate IV in Graphic Design. Her creative path has since led her to Melbourne, Australia, where she founded and ran the Alchemy School of art from 2002 - guiding well over a thousand students to awaken their creative potential and discover that painting and drawing are accessible to all, even beginners.
Although Bonny's own style of painting and drawing leans towards the "imaginary realism" or "visionary art" genres she encourages students to find "their own unique voice and style" often using traditional realism as a base. She also sometimes encourages students to mix abstract with realism to bring more imagination and spontaneity into the mix.
For five years, Bonny served as the director of the Esoteric Gallery, curating a diverse range of inspiring exhibitions while holding space for creative and spiritual events, workshops and gatherings that brought artists and seekers together in shared exploration of expression and meaning.
To date, she has had 12 solo art exhibitions and been involved with many group exhibitions.
Her deep passion for visionary and imaginative art led her to create, produce and edit the television series "Inside Imaginary Realism" for the Melbourne Television Station, Channel 31, which successfully ran for two seasons, offering insights into the worlds of visionary artists and imaginative creation.

Today Bonny paints full time and remains deeply connected to Melbourne's vibrant creative community, continuing to share her knowledge, inspiration and love of art - encouraging others to step onto their own creative path.
