Explore the sculptural possibilities of knitting with wire in this relaxed two-day course.
Over two days, you’ll learn how to create small three-dimensional knitted forms using wire, shaping your work through increases, decreases, and simple construction techniques. This course is designed to give you a strong technical foundation while also allowing space for experimentation, play, and personal design choices.
On the first day, we’ll focus on the core techniques: casting on with wire, increasing stitches, decreasing stitches, shaping a three-dimensional form, and closing your work neatly.
On the second day, you’ll choose from a selection of small projects and continue developing your skills. We’ll explore different ways of finishing edges, resolving forms, and making design decisions that help your wire objects feel complete and considered.
By the end of the course, you’ll have created two or three finished wire objects and gained the confidence to keep experimenting with wire knitting at home.
This workshop is suitable for curious beginners as well as knitters, textile makers, jewellery makers, and artists who would like to explore wire as a sculptural material.

Hello, I'm Harrie and I have been teaching textile techniques for more than twenty years, sharing my passion for making with students across Australia, Italy and the United States. My own training has taken me through Australia, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, where I was fortunate to learn from remarkable teachers and immerse myself in a rich variety of textile traditions.
Following COVID, I stepped away from teaching for four years after experiencing digital burnout. Although the break was necessary, I realised just how much I missed the creativity, connection and joy that come from sharing these skills with others. Returning to teaching feels like coming home.
Over the years I've taught workshops for hundreds of students, from complete beginners to experienced makers looking to expand their creative practice. One of the greatest joys of teaching is watching someone realise that they are capable of creating something beautiful with their own hands. Seeing that moment of confidence emerge never gets old.
My teaching has included textile and costume history, alongside specialised textile techniques, at universities, design schools and dedicated craft schools. While I love the breadth of textile traditions, I've chosen to focus on knitting with metal because it continues to fascinate and delight me.
There's something truly magical about transforming a simple length of wire into a beautifully textured piece of jewellery. From the ancient technique of Viking Knit to the whimsy of three-dimensional knitted forms, metal knitting combines centuries-old textile knowledge with contemporary jewellery making. It is endlessly creative, deeply satisfying and wonderfully relaxing.
Whether you've never picked up a pair of pliers or you're already an experienced maker, my workshops are designed to be welcoming, encouraging and inspiring. I believe everyone can learn these techniques, and I look forward to sharing the magic of knitting with metal with you.
