How can we help?
Q: Who is this class suitable for?
This open studio is designed for students who already have some basic Gongbi painting experience and are working on their own projects.
Q: Is this a beginner class?
No. This is not a step-by-step beginner lesson. Students should have a basic understanding of Gongbi painting and be able to work independently while receiving guidance when needed.
Q: What should I bring?
Please bring your current Gongbi painting project and your own painting materials and brushes. If you are unsure what to bring, feel free to contact me before the session.
Q: Will I receive individual guidance?
Yes. I will provide personalised guidance, demonstrations and technical support throughout the day whenever you need assistance.
Q: How many students will attend?
To maintain a peaceful and supportive atmosphere, each open studio session is limited to a maximum of four students.
Q: Are refreshments provided?
Yes. Tea, coffee and light refreshments are included. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, and hot meals can be heated in the studio.
Q: Can I work on any Gongbi subject?
Yes. You can bring your own project, or choose a subject from the drawing designs available in the studio.
Q: What if I have questions before booking?
Please feel free to contact me. I am happy to discuss your project and whether this open studio session is suitable for you.
Q: Can I attend regularly?
Yes. Many students enjoy attending open studio sessions regularly to continue developing their Gongbi skills and receive ongoing guidance.
Q: What's the cancellation policy?
A: Free to cancel or reschedule up until 7 days before the class
Q: How long does the class run for, and what's the price?
A: 5 hours, $60 - $75 per guest (Earlybird price of $60 applies if you book into a public session 7+ days ahead)

Prepare the Line Drawing
Begin with a carefully transferred line drawing, establishing the composition and fine details of the bamboo and dragonfly.
Build Form with Diluted Ink
Use layered shading with light ink to create depth, volume, and the elegant structure of the leaves and bamboo stems.
Add Colour
Apply soft transparent washes of green, gradually building rich tones while preserving the delicate brushwork.
Finish and Refine
Complete the painting with gentle background washes and final adjustments to create a calm and balanced composition.
