What you'll do

Melbourne's best-selling mosaic lamp class. Step into the colour and warmth of the Grand Bazaar without leaving Richmond.

Over two hours you'll arrange stained glass tiles into traditional Islamic geometric patterns, building your own Turkish lamp from scratch. These are the same glowing ornaments that once lit the Ottoman palaces, and yours goes home with you the same day.

We guide you through every step, so no experience needed. Just turn up and enjoy a complimentary Turkish tea and coffee service while you work.

Date night, a catch up with friends, a birthday or just something different to do, you'll leave with a lamp you made yourself and a real taste of Anatolian hospitality.

The host was fantastic, incredibly patient, and full of helpful tips despite our endless indecision! We were really happy with how our lamps turned out, and the venue was lovely.My only suggestion would be to play some Turkish music during the session, as the quiet moments with a group of strangers felt a little awkward. Otherwise, it was an excellent experience that I'd highly recommend.

There was, however, a ring making workshop being held right at the next table which took away from the experience since it was so loud. Would have been perfect otherwise.

The instructions along the way were a little random - just good luck if we got to hear them. Also, maybe start the class with the tea & coffee & clear explanation & technique demo of the process and then get the participants to start on their individual projects. Getting served bad apple tea in a huge paper cup does not speak to the ‘Turkish afternoon tea & selection of sweets’ in traditional tea glasses as advertised on your website. Quite a let down. However, decorating the lamps was fun & they turned out lovely.

There were two classes being held at the same time (ring workshop and mosiac workshop) so the staff's attention was split between the two so we were mostly left to our own devices which is fine since it was pretty much just taking time to select colours and beads. Simple, messy but fun and entertaining workshop. Had a lovely Turkish coffee and turkish delight to finish the workshop.

Overall the teacher was a really nice chap and the group were friendly and I managed to bring home a nice little candle holder, but : 1. It would be nice to be greeted at the door and for the teacher to introduce himself - not just point to a table where we were to sit. Even suggest we introduce ourselves to those at the table. I came out not knowing the name of anyone in my class or my teacher. 2. Also - The class really needs to be introduced - and oriented. Today we are going to make a small candle holder showing an example of a finished one would have been great. Why not very briefly mention the role of mosaics in Turkish history/culture. This would make the whole experience richer. 3. Describing the 3 step process first would have been very helpful. I found I wasI filling in templates with gem shapes without any real concept of how it all went together. People at my table were relying on a lady who had done the course before instructing us, rather than our teacher. I mean for this feedback to be helpful and am very grateful for the opportunity to do the workshop. Thankyou. Lyn Watts

The teacher for the class was super helpful and offered great suggestions on selecting colours and placement of the glass ‘tiles’ along with showing correct technique for finishing off the lamps we had created. The Turkish coffee and pomegranate Turkish delight were an added bonus that finished off our session deliciously well. Would absolutely recommend and am looking to book again myself!!

Our instructor was friendly and chatty however seemed a bit rushed as he was finishing another class as ours began (sounds like another instructor was sick though so understandable!). We also missed out on the Turkish tea service which was a bit disappointing.
