Leather Journal Making Class

Make your own journal from start to finish.

6 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests

$200 (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Learn how to craft your very own customised leather journal. Not just a cover to slip over an existing book, but the whole thing. This class covers the page-binding as well. We’ll go over all you need to know about:
  • Choosing the right leather
  • How to make “freestyle” design choices turn out the way you want them to
  • Learning a very simple alternative to the typical Coptic binding you see on other books
At the end of the day, you’ll leave here with a completed journal.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 2 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.
What you'll get
You will have the journal you made with your own two hands. Your choice of colour for leather will also be available to you.
Knowledge required
No previous crafting knowledge or experience is needed; it’s a very accessible class.
What to bring
You don’t need to bring anything with you.

Artisan Leather Crafts

I have been working with leather for almost ten years now, and leather-making has been my full time occupation for the last six years. I make custom pieces for the cosplay and LARP communities, as well as selling over the internet.
I teach small classes in my workshop at home as well as larger ones at the Raretrades Centre in Ballarat. I am very enthusiastic about sharing this craft with people regardless of experience. I work with those new to leather-making, those who have already done a little bit themselves, and also those who want to really further their skills.
I have a strong passion for completing this craft with hand-tools as opposed to a lot of the modern conveniences that many people are turning to nowadays. There’s no laser cutters or 3d printers in my workshop. I feel this is important for keeping the hobby accessible for everyone.
On top of all that, it’s important for me that I can create a safe, enjoyable place for people to take a day out from the craziness and enjoy themselves with good company, learning a craft with their hands.
