This Watercolour Fundamentals workshop provides a structured introduction to the principles and techniques of traditional watercolour painting. Participants will learn core skills, including washes, wet-on-wet application, and wet-on-dry techniques, developing an understanding of when and how each approach is used. Through guided instruction and practical exercises, participants will build confidence in handling watercolour materials and applying foundational techniques. Suitable for beginners, the workshop offers a supportive learning environment, and all materials are provided. By the end of the session, participants will have completed a watercolour painting and gained a solid foundation for further artistic development.

Pilar de la Torre is a contemporary naturalist/realist artist based in Melbourne, Victoria. Her passion is drawing and painting, mainly in oils and watercolours. She works across all genres: portrait, figure, interiors, still life, and landscape. Pilar’s philosophy is the pursuit of constant improvement of her skills, which she does by continual development. She shares her passion by teaching. Pilar has been a finalist in many awards, including the Lethbridge 20000 Small Art Award (2025, 2024, 2023), Fortyfivedownstairs Emerging Artist Award 2024, Bluethumb Prize, the SBS Portrait Prize, Kennedy Art Prize, and AME Bale Travelling Scholarship, including the drawing and painting prize. She was also the Australian representative to the Russian Academy of Art, Saint Petersburg 2019, selected by the Russian Academy faculty, and many other awards. Pilar has had four solo exhibitions and has been involved in numerous group exhibitions.
