  • 5/5 from Narelle Villella, attended Jul 2026: I had a great time. The class was really informative and interesting and the food was delicious. Sharing the meal with the other participants at the end was really enjoyable and the views across Melbourne were amazing. Saori was so friendly, enthusiastic and encouraging and it was lovely to meet Gordon too. They are very generous hosts and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who has an interest in Japanese cuisine and culture. Thank you so much, Saori!

  • 5/5 from Hannah Christensen, attended May 2025: I had such a lovely time at this cooking class! Saori creates a welcoming and joyful atmosphere that made the whole experience feel like cooking with a friend. Her knowledge of Japanese cuisine shines through but it's her warmth and enthusiasm that truly make the class special. We cooked a variety of delicious dishes and I appreciated the chance to taste as we went. Everything was hands-on and achievable. I left feeling full inspired, and excited to try the recipes again at home. Highly recommended!
  • 5/5 from Kerryn Cross, attended Oct 2024: Excellent experience. Relaxed and informal environment. Organic produce used when possible. Easy homemade authentic recipes to try at home. I have already made some of the dishes and they are quick and very tasty. Saori was very informative and knowledgeable about the food we cooked and very competent teacher too. My friend and I had a really good time. Thank you.
  • 5/5 from Geraldine Karla, attended Aug 2024: Tim, my husband was keen to celebrate his 60th birthday with an activity. He was quite particular so it was sensational that Saori absolutely hit the right note. The house is set on the side of the mountain overlooking the city and the bay, vegie gardens overflowing, Japanese artworks... And the smells, spices, views, open kitchen. Sari was such a delight, conversations ranging across products, her hands moving quickly between knifes and chopsticks. Fresh vegies victims to our newly gained skills which Saori ensured we all had ample opportunity to practice. We learnt about the health benefits of the traditional products like dashi, mushrooms, seaweeds and greens and then savored it all. A totally engaging day.
  • 5/5 from Heloise C, attended Jan 2024: Teacher very friendly and experienced Japanese. We cooked a wide range of simple traditional dishes and got to sit down together and eat them. We enjoyed the class very much
  • 4/5 from Ling Ka Yi, attended Sep 2023: Saori is a knowledgable teacher who is passionate about cooking and her sauces. We had good fun learning how to cook various yaki dishes and got to nibble between dishes. There was more than enough food and you could bring home if you brought a box to do so. Just remember to bring your own apron if you'd like one. Also, Saori's home is on top of a hill, so get a Uber/cab from the train station, it is really a walk.
  • 5/5 from Amber Rekdale, attended Mar 2023: Fantastic class and great food! Would recommend!

female Women-owned

Saori Kojima founded her brand of traditional Japanese sauces and seasonings in 2013 in her newly adopted home of Upwey, in Victoria’s leafy Dandenong Ranges.
When Saori first moved to Melbourne from Hokkaido in 2011, she was delighted to discover the incredible array of fresh produce and ingredients available, but found it difficult to find authentic Japanese sauces and condiments that were not overly processed and full of unnecessary additives and flavour enhancers. Having always been accustomed to preparing food from scratch in Japan, she began making traditionally prepared sauces for her own enjoyment.
At first her intention was to simply to recreate the flavours of home to share with her family and friends, but what began as a hobby soon flourished into an award winning business.
Between 2013 and 2019 Saori’s products have won a total of 10 medals at the Australian Food Awards, Melbourne Food Awards and Hobart Fine Food Awards.
Saori’s guiding philosophy is ‘ Quality food; Quality life’. With a well founded belief that Japanese cuisine is one of the healthiest in the world, she has made it her mission to share the benefits of real Japanese cooking with Australian people. ‘I want to share my knowledge of easy, healthy and delicious ways of cooking at home. I want to contribute to a healthier Australia!’
