Step deeper into the enchanting world of watercolour and explore the beauty of what you may find in a wild garden in this relaxing, intermediate-friendly workshop. In this three-hour class, you’ll learn how to build depth, texture, and atmosphere through layered watercolour techniques while creating a charming woodland illustration filled with flowers, mushrooms, and natural elements. You’ll be guided through techniques that help transform simple shapes into more detailed botanical artwork — from creating translucent petals and organic textures to building a balanced composition that feels alive. Whether you’ve completed a beginner watercolour class or are looking to expand your skills, this workshop will help you develop confidence in creating more detailed and expressive paintings.
You’ll begin by developing a woodland-inspired colour palette and exploring:
  • Mixing natural greens, earthy browns, floral purples, and botanical tones
  • Creating colour variations to avoid flat-looking paintings
  • Using glazing to build depth and luminous layers
  • Understanding how colour and contrast create atmosphere
Once you feel comfortable with your palette, you’ll move into guided studies of advanced botanical and woodland elements. You’ll learn how to:
  • Paint layered petals with transparency and depth
  • Create realistic mushroom forms with texture and curved surfaces
  • Add details such as gills, reflected light, and natural markings
  • Paint supporting woodland elements including moss, ferns, berries, and foliage
  • Use composition techniques to create a balanced illustration
During the three-hour class, you will learn:
  • Colour mixing
  • Sunflower
  • Moral Mushroom
  • Garden foliage and natural elements
If there's time:
  • Shaggy Ink Cap Mushroom
  • Small garden details such as moths, snails, and stones/pebbles
In the final portion of the class, you’ll bring everything together to create your own finished Wild Garden illustration. You’ll combine flowers, mushrooms, and foliage into a unique composition — a piece of artwork that captures the quiet magic of the garden and can be proudly displayed or gifted.
