I know, I know... Most of us see macrame wall hangings and planters and say, "I want to learn to do macrame." Some of us say, "Yeah, my grandma or my mum knew how to do that." Well, never again, because I too always said the same thing. I went and learned, and I'm here to make the matriarchy proud by teaching you, as a beginner, to learn this pervasive feminine craft.
In this workshop, you will learn how to appropriately measure macrame cord and understand that different widths provide different effects. There are different types of cord too, depending on what you want to create with your macrame.
Whether you want to keep doing macrame in the future or not doesn't matter! It's about the experience and having fun. However, after this workshop, I'm pretty sure your perspective on decoration will be in knots and cotton rope! Look out!
What you'll get
Macrame seems complex at first. Understanding the basic knots and techniques is absolutely essential. Yet once you begin to understand them, it simply becomes easier and you start to experiment with more complex knots and designs. Next thing you know, you will be crafting pot plant hangers, table runners, detailed wall hangings—you will become obsessed! Then... you start to become more interested in other ways of integrating macrame in all sorts of art.
As a beginner, I will show you how to create a simple wall hanging using the fundamental knots in most macrame pieces. I will show you tips and tricks that will help alleviate tears and frustrations that, yes... I experienced throughout my own macrame journey! We will use the traditional white macrame cord, approximately 4mm in width. You will walk away with a basic understanding of knotting and an appreciation of how to use design in macrame.
Knowledge required
As a beginner's workshop, only an appreciation for the craft is required.
