Silver Ring or Pendant Making Workshop

Design and carve your own silver ring or pendant, with an optional gemstone setting

4 hours Class size 6 to 30 guests       $550

Delve into the creative world of jewellery making in Brunswick!
In this intimate masterclass, you'll design and create a simple ring or pendant using the ancient technique of lost-wax casting. The session is guided, with multiple demonstrations throughout, to help you bring your design to life. As a university lecturer and professional jeweller, Nadine has exceptional teaching skills, attending to individual needs.
You'll spend approximately four hours testing wax carving techniques—building up, carving, sawing, filing, piercing, and sizing your piece—until it's perfectly shaped for casting.
Your finished wax model will be taken off-site to be cast in sterling silver (or another metal of your choosing), then returned polished and ready to wear. This workshop also equips you with the skills to continue crafting at home.
What to expect:
  • Cost includes access to basic materials, tools, and your own sterling silver ring or pendant (select from popular base designs). Complex designs or pieces over 10 g may incur an extra fee.
  • You'll also have the opportunity to choose your desired metal—9 k, 18 k gold or platinum—at an additional cost quoted individually.
  • A curated range of semi-precious gemstones will be available to purchase and incorporate into your design, or you’re welcome to bring your own (note: an additional stone‑setting fee applies).
  • The workshop is limited to eight participants, and it runs for about four hours. Tea and snacks will be provided.
What you'll get
  • A free inspiration pack emailed out to you on confirmation of your booking to help you tease out your design.
  • A free 10-minute Zoom meeting with Nadine prior to the workshop to discuss the feasibility of your design / inclusion of your own gemstones.
  • A four hour guided wax carving workshop with jeweller and educator Nadine Treister.

Hi, I’m Nadine – the teacher behind Mad Wax Jewellery Workshops!
I’ve always had a fascination with transforming raw materials into objects of beauty, and wax carving captured my imagination from the first moment I held a jeweller’s file in my hand. My journey began over a decade ago, after years of studying Interior Design and lecturing in design. That background, combined with my passion for storytelling through objects, naturally led me to jewellery – and more specifically, to wax carving.
There’s something magical about carving a block of wax into a tiny sculpture, ready to be cast into metal. It’s slow, meditative, and deeply satisfying. I love teaching because I get to share that magic. Watching students – from total beginners to creative professionals – become completely absorbed in the process, and leave with a piece they’ve made from scratch, never gets old.
Over the years, I’ve run countless workshops and one-on-one sessions, taught at design schools, and exhibited my work both locally and internationally. I’ve also worked behind the scenes with some of Melbourne’s most respected contemporary jewellers. My own jewellery practice blends humour, history, and design, and has been featured in exhibitions that explore everything from domestic spaces to wearable sculpture.
I keep my classes relaxed, inclusive, and hands-on. Whether you’re looking to try something new, unwind after work, or dream up your own future jewellery line – you’re welcome at my bench.
Let’s carve something beautiful together!
