Scratch beneath the surface and learn sgraffito with Deep Blue Ceramics in Canberra!
This is a fun hands-on class where you will learn how to do the sgraffito technique of surface decoration of clay.
Sgraffito involves scratching through a surface layer to reveal a contrasting layer beneath. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore this fascinating method.
What you’ll learn:
  • Introduction to sgraffito: History, techniques, and inspirations.
  • Material overview: Tools, surfaces, and mediums used in sgraffito.
  • Hands-on practice: Create your own sgraffito piece using a variety of techniques.
  • Design tips: How to develop and refine your designs for impactful results.
  • Troubleshooting: Common issues and how to address them.
At the end of your class, your creations will be glazed and fired for you, ready to collect a few weeks after the class. This class is perfect if you're searching for new things to do in Canberra!
Please note:
  • You will need to collect your fired pieces from our Studio approximately four weeks after your workshop.
  • Public dates for this class require at least 5 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we'll cancel the class; in this case, we'll inform you and allow you to get a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

  • All the materials, glazes, and tools needed.
  • two leather hard pieces, feel free ti bring your own too if you like!
  • Your fired pieces ready to collect four weeks after your class. Please follow us on social media to be advised about pick-up times and dates!

This workshop is perfect for artists of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced creators looking to expand their skills.
What to bring
  • All materials will be provided but feel free to bring any personal tools or sketchbooks you like.
  • Wear old clothes as things might get a bit messy!
