How can we help?
Q: What is Gongbi painting?
Gongbi painting is a traditional Chinese painting style known for its fine brushwork, careful layering of colour, and attention to detail. It has a history of over two thousand years and is often used to depict flowers, birds, and nature. In this class, Gongbi-inspired colouring techniques are used on silk to create a calm, focused, and meditative painting experience.
Q: Do I need any painting experience?
No experience is required at all. This class is designed for complete beginners. The ink outline is prepared in advance, and all colouring techniques are taught step by step in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Q: How long is the class?
The session runs approximately 3-4 hours. The exact length may vary slightly depending on the pace of the participants, allowing everyone to work comfortably without rushing.
Q: What will I make in the class?
You will complete one hand-painted round silk fan, which will be presented in a gift box to take home at the end of the class.
Q: Are all materials provided?
Yes. All painting materials, including the silk fan, brushes, pigments, and tools are fully provided. Light refreshments such as tea, coffee, and a small treat are also included.
Q: Can I give my silk fan as a gift?
Absolutely. If your silk fan is prepared as a gift, a complimentary greeting card printed with the studio logo is provided for you to add a personal message.
Q: Is this a private or small-group class?
This class is intentionally kept small, with a maximum of two participants, to ensure personal guidance and a calm learning atmosphere.
Q: What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing is recommended. While aprons are provided, silk painting involves working with water and pigments, so wearing clothes you don't mind getting a little paint on is advised.
Q: Is this class suitable for a parent and child?
Yes. This class is well suited for pairs such as a parent and child or two friends who would like to enjoy a shared creative experience together. But this class is recommended for adults ( or 14 + if you prefer). Not recommended to anyone who is under 14 years old.
Q: What if I finish earlier or need more time?
The session is designed to be flexible. Guidance is provided throughout, and the class duration allows time for each participant to wok at a comfortable pace.
Q: What's the cancellation policy?
A: Free to cancel or reschedule up until 7 days before the class
Q: How long does the class run for, and what's the price?
A: 4 hours, $118 - $138 per guest ($138 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $118/guest for 2 guests)

Introduction to Silk Fan Painting
Begin with a short introduction to traditional Chinese silk fan painting. You will learn about the materials used and how colour behaves differently on silk compared to paper. Your silk fan will already feature a hand-drawn ink outline prepared by the teacher.
Colour the Silk Fan
With the outline already prepared, you'll focus on colouring the silk fan using traditional Chinese Gongbi painting methods.
Build Harmony and Depth Through Colour
Continue layering colour to create depth and harmony within the design.
Complete and Take Home Your Silk Fan
After the colouring process is complete, your silk fan is gently presented in a gift box, ready to take home. This moment brings the experience to a close, celebrating both the artwork you've created and the quiet, meditative process of Gongbi painting.
