Bring along your drawings or ideas for your totem pole and we will take you through the design process step by step.

Day one:

  • You'll be acquainted with the types of clay to use.
  • We'll explore refinement of drawings to allow success in the construction process.
  • You'll learn how to make facial features and how to create an interesting torso for your totem pole.
  • All sculptures will be fired, ready for the second session.

Please note, there are a few weeks in-between the course dates to allow enough time for firing.

Day two:
  • We will underglaze and glaze our sculptures, adding colour through pattern, texture and design work, so we can bring your work to life!
  • A demonstration will show how to form all your pieces together using metal rods to support your work from the base to the head of your sculpture.

Course dates:

Series one:
  • Day one session: Saturday 3rd September 9 am to 4 pm
  • Day two session: Saturday 12th November 9 am to 4 pm

After the course, your teacher will glaze your work a second time and organise a pick-up date for the collection of your sculptural pieces and structural metal elements which you will later put together at home.

All firing is at the cost of the participant and will be paid before the second duration of the second date of the workshop.

Hi my name is Leah Bright and I am a practicing artist and a teacher. For as long as I can remember I have loved to create artworks. I majored in Sculpture at University, creating large scale works and today my focus is using the combination of ceramics, drawing and painting. Ceramics is a process that completely grounds me. I love to discover it nuances, textures and ability to take on integral forms and structures.

I have a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts and a Dip Ed in Teaching. I have been practicing as an artist for 20 years and have been teaching in a Secondary School for 17 years. After majoring in sculpture at University, I discovered the love for how things are structured and formed.

The concept of Slow Life Workshops has grown from a desire to reconnect with the quiet self, whilst creating art in a magical setting. All workshops are held in inspirational environments. These locations are chosen for their beauty and their ability to transcend people on their personal journey.

Teaching art is a wonderful opportunity to share knowledge about skills and processes and to help facilitate individual’s to explore their inner artist. My teaching style is energetic and enthusiastic where students are encouraged to let themselves evolve.
