Curb that expensive store-bought kombucha habit by learning how to brew your very own. This inexpensive and all-natural carbonated drink is great for your body, mind and soul. Join the Fermented Mumma as she details the process and benefits of fermentation, the problems with pre-packaged kombucha, and the endless flavour combinations for your custom booch.

The Fermented Mumma will introduce you to a SCOBY (which stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast), the low-pH “mother” from which your kombucha will spring. First, black tea and sugar are brewed together to make the starter tea. This is then poured over the SCOBY, covered in a cheesecloth, and left to ferment. The yeast consumes the sugar, excreting alcohol, which is processed by the bacteria into vinegar, providing a natural carbonation and tangy zing. New SCOBY babies form in the process, and you’ll be taught how to love and care for your gelatinous new friends.

You’ll leave with a 3.4-litre jar of your very own kombucha ready to ferment, along with hard- and soft-copy materials to help you on your way to becoming a future kombucha producer.

Jess the teacher was very knowledgeable about all aspects of fermentation. She gave us some great, real-world tips for how to ferment at home. Taking home our first SCOBY with all the knowledge to make our own kick-ass kombucha in 14 days was really cool and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I have made kombucha before, but never really knew what I was doing. When I booked the class I was worried that I wouldn't receive enough information to satisfy the price, but I was mistaken. Jess was full of so much information. I learnt so much about why and how the process of fermenting works. I came out of the lesson so enthusiastic to start kombucha-ing again! And confident that everything will go smooth.
