Hi, I’m Florencia Martin.I’m a visual artist based in Perth (South Fremantle), originally from Argentina and now calling Australia home. My journey into this craft began when I discovered the quiet power of portraiture and the human figure—moments of human presence, light on skin, subtle shifts in expression—that captivated me. What started as a fascination turned into a dedicated practice.There was a pivotal moment for me when I enrolled at the Seattle atelier of Juliette Aristides, and later deepened my training online at New York’s Grand Central Atelier. These experiences brought me into a world of classical drawing and painting traditions, and I realised: this isn’t just something I do—it’s my lifeblood. Why I Love TeachingTeaching is more than sharing skills—it’s about offering a space of discovery, meaning and transformation. I love guiding students through the process of seeing: observing structure, light, and form—and then giving life to that on paper or canvas. There’s nothing quite like the moment when someone holds up their drawing or painting and realises: I created this. That spark is why I teach.A Little About Me & My CraftWhat many people don’t see is the deep stillness behind what appears lively—in my art, I’m drawn to that quiet complexity of the human form, the light that reveals character, the presence that lingers. Over the years I’ve worked in oil and graphite, rooted in classical tradition, always honouring observation, structure, light and the inner life of my subjects. My style is grounded, contemplative and rooted in classical methods—yet I encourage each student to bring their own voice and intuition into their work.Experience & RecognitionI’ve been teaching drawing and painting classes and workshops for several years across Perth and beyond. My work has appeared in exhibitions and been recognised with selected finalist awards (for example, in the Canning Art Award, Melville Art Award). My aim is simple: whether you’re new to drawing or advancing into portraiture, I offer a welcoming, structured and inspiring environment where you can grow and trust your vision.
