So you have done a Dutch Pour Class before - take this popular style to the next level and size in this 4-hour Advanced Intensive. The 'Dutch Pour' or Air Swipe technique is where you pour from a cup and use a hairdryer to move the paint and create stunning cells, blooms, and effects. So simple, but so effective. To create the painting you want takes practise, in this class, we will practise using the hairdryer in different ways, explore the order of the colours and what difference this makes and use a spinner to help spread the paint further, allowing simple blooms to grow. We will create 4 paintings with different approaches to moving the paint.
We will:
  • Practise and do some exercises on a 12 x 16 inch (30 x 40 cm) back-stapled thin edge canvas
  • Create a wave also on a 12 x 16-inch canvas
  • Create a large bloom by spinning the art to make it spread on a 16 x 16-inch canvas
  • Create a design of your choice on a larger canvas (or two smaller ones as a diptych). You might like to do a split colour base.
This class will cover:
  • How to prepare your canvas
  • How to mix paints and paint mediums suitable for this technique
  • How to control the shape and size of the design through managing the hairdryer and the direction of airflow
  • Understanding basic colour theory, paint transparency, choosing colours and the impact of the order of paints
  • Understanding basic composition
  • How to fix sections of the canvas that are not your best.
  • How to create beautiful cells and lacing in your art
If you're looking for relaxing things to do in Melbourne, why not join this fluid art workshop and unwind with like-minded creatives as you learn new skills.
