What you'll do
Want to make some fun xmas tree decorations while exploring your creative side, then this is the class for you. This one-day workshop covers the basic skills for fusing and decorating glass xmas decorations.
What you'll learn:
- Cutting glass
- Glass behaviour under temperature
- Design
- Preparing glass for firing
- Basic firing schedule
You will make several glass pieces suitable for hanging on your xmas tree. You will be given a certain amount of glass and will be able to make as many pieces as you can with that glass.
The day will start with a couple of videos showing fusing and cutting basics over coffee or tea. Your teacher will be on hand to explain more, answer questions, and then into the studio where you will learn to cut class.
Before lunch, you will look at the glass that is available and decide on what you want to make. You'll work with a range of glass including sheet glass, frit, powder, and stringers.
After lunch, you will design your pieces and then cut your chosen glass. You will then clean your glass and assemble it into the kiln. The pieces will be fired and a date organised so you know when to pick up your finished pieces!
Please note: your pieces will be available 3-5 days after the workshop. You will need to come back to the studio to pick up or we can arrange to send the finished works.

Although my journey with glass started with lead lighting 30 years ago, I learned to make fused glass in 2009. Without boundaries, I found it the perfect medium to explore and develop my creative skills.
Glass is a fascinating medium, and I am constantly learning, experimenting and developing new methods to create new pieces that reflect my story and environment.
