Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop that introduces you to the joys and responsibilities of beekeeping. This practical course covers everything you need to get started—from safety and hive management to understanding bee behaviour and busting common myths. You’ll suit up and get the chance to examine a live hive, observe the intricate comb-building process, and learn how to identify the queen and her eggs.
Discover how beekeeping can enrich your garden, improve fruit and vegetable yields, and reward you with your own pure, local honey. Whether you’re in an urban backyard or rural setting, this workshop will give you the confidence to begin your beekeeping journey.
You will:
  • Learn essential beekeeping practices, safety, and hive management
  • Understand legal requirements and common misconceptions
  • Get up close with a live hive (optional, with protective gear)
  • Identify the queen, eggs, and hive activity
  • Explore how bees support pollination and food production
NOTE - A full-coverage beekeeping suit will be provided for those who wish to get close to the hive. There is still a small risk of being stung. If you have experienced an anaphylactic reaction to bee stings, this workshop is not recommended.
Kelvin Scandrett has been a passionate beekeeper since 2017, when he completed his Certificate III in Beekeeping. What began with two hives to pollinate pumpkins quickly grew into over 100 hives across Northern NSW. Together with his wife Sarah, Kelvin runs Two Busy Beez, a family business producing honey and beeswax products for local markets and retail. He is deeply passionate about education, regularly delivering hands-on beekeeping demonstrations in local schools and community settings.
