Introduction to Copper Foil Stained Glass Workshop

Learn to create a stained glass artwork using the copper foil method!

3.5 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests

  $160 (Afterpay available)

Looking for something a little different to do on a Friday night? Join us from 5:30-9pm for a stained glass art workshop and learn traditional copper foil techniques with glass artist and community arts facilitator, Fiona Caskie (AKA My Imaginary Heart).
The copper foil technique makes for a gentle introduction to glass art and allows you to explore a variety of shapes and colours using delicate pieces to make smaller-scale stained glass artworks like suncatchers and wall hangings.
This workshop is limited to a small group for individualised attention and focused learning. Patterns are provided, and you will create a small finished suncatcher that you can take home to enjoy. Larger panels can be completed by booking multiple sessions.
Designed for complete beginners (advanced learners and refreshers welcome), you will learn how to:
  • Cut glass using three different tools
  • Grind and shape glass to a pattern
  • Apply copper foil to glass
  • Construct your project using soldering tools
  • Use finishing techniques to polish and display your item
Please note: Glaas Inc advises that stained glass work is not recommended for those pregnant/breastfeeding and we encourage potential students to seek further advice from their GP before participating.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 3 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

  • 5/5 from Emily Petrie, attended Aug 2026: I really enjoyed the class; it was both more simple and more complex than I expected. I think for a small, one off, evening class I learned a lot and it was nice to have something at the end to keep.
  • 5/5 from Alyce L Stampa, attended May 2026: I loved it. Great teacher and workshop. Only just enough time.
  • 5/5 from Mary van Gils, attended Apr 2026: Our group of 4 had an amazing time learning the basics about copper foil stained glass. Fiona was an excellent teacher with a very calm, patient energy, and her explanations of every step of the process were really easy to understand. We learned to cut glass, grind the edges, apply copper foil, solder and polish (and how to be safe while working with glass). We loved rummaging through the glass boxes to pick the colours/patterns to use on our suncatchers! Fiona was super encouraging and supportive of everyone's artistic choices. The workshop space was also super well organised and tidy! Such a cool experience and I am so in love with my little sun catcher.
  • 5/5 from Anna Carlstrom, attended Mar 2026: Fiona was lovely, attentive and vlear in her instructions. Highly recommend this class.
  • 5/5 from Lucah Dyer, attended Feb 2026: Fiona was warm, clear in her instruction and helped us if we had any snags along the way. She was keen to help us gain an understanding of the craft, we're keen to try more with glass in the future. I really appreciate that she allowed us to run a little over time to finish our work. Absolutely would recommend!
  • 5/5 from Tim Carruthers, attended Dec 2025: We went to this class as a birthday activity and it was great! The teacher Fiona was great and very patient! My partner who bought the class for now has a new hobby!
  • 5/5 from Kim Sutton, attended Dec 2025: Fiona was a fantastic teacher, really loved the energy and welcoming space to explore a new activity. The studio is also very comfortable and organised. Highly recommend, and am going to book in for more myself!
  • 5/5 from Kelly Mansell, attended Dec 2025: Fiona was very patient and thorough. No question was too much. Mum and I loved the class, and our end project is lovely!
  • 5/5 from Elaine Zam, attended Oct 2025: This was the perfect introduction class to stained glass! Our instructor Fiona was so knowledgeable and patient with everyone and I really appreciate how attentive she was, always making sure we on the right track. I feel like I learned so much more than I would from watching video tutorials! As the first group doing the Friday night class, I would recommend starting half an hour earlier like 5:30pm, and limiting the class to max 4 people.
