Looking for unique things to do in Melbourne this weekend? Join Kaya Jewers for a beginner-friendly etching workshop and learn the skills to make unique pieces of art from scratch!
In this class, you will learn how to etch and print an acetate drypoint etching. You'll learn about the etching process, inking, paper choice, and different ways to add colour. The great thing about drypoint is the detail you can achieve just by making more or fewer marks! It allows you to do nice reproductions of photographs and keep the integrity of sketches too.
A friendly expert will run you through some quick examples and some different ways to print at home without a press. You'll also discover places to buy the materials you'll need, from tools to presses and ways you can recycle materials you may have around the house!
You'll learn how to etch your plate with your own design or photograph. Once your plate is etched and printing nicely, you'll learn about a few ways to add colour to your etching. Once you've completed these few steps you'll then get to print your funky coloured etching onto paper!
At the end of the class, you will have a small edition of unique and colourful etchings to take home or gift to a loved one!
