Limestone Carving Workshop

Learn how to carve limestone sculptures at this hands-on Adelaide Hills workshop

6 hours Class size 8 to 18     label $160

Spend a day stone sculpting in the delightful surrounds of Crystal Lake Park and learn how to carve your own creative ideas into limestone!

Guided by two experienced sculptors, Sally Wickes and Andrew Stock, you'll work at your own pace to achieve your artistic vision.

Come to the class with your own ideas to speed up the design process and start carving sooner. Your instructors will first spend some time explaining the importance of considering the design of your carving and getting your head around the idea of transferring what may be an idea drawn in 2D into working in 3D.

You will then be shown the tools that we use and the most effective ways to use them to shape the stone. We use a soft limestone that is easy to carve and shape and only hand tools that can be easily sourced from hardware stores if anyone wants to try carving at home. These include saws, hammers, chisels, files and rasps.

Select a piece of stone that seems most suited to what you want to carve, and away you go! At the end of the day, take home your completed sculpture and the confidence to continue on your DIY journey.
